Fellow Zoners ...The time many of us had hoped has arrived. Miles Austin now has a pro game. His sideline route for a long gain ,ending close to the goal ,will now give apposing D cordinators much concern... Miles absolutely baited the poor cornerback ,knowing the back was playing his body, and lulled and then accelerated for the catch. It absolutely ozzed of confidence and pro ability...Gentleman we now have another playmaker to the team, and Pat Crayton may be wearing the star for his last year... Austin has broken out, and won't be looking back.........

That was a good play.

If you watch the first big catch he had, the safety totally commits to T.O. and as a result Austin gets wide open.

Hold T.O. 2 catches, you're going to have to put some serious attention towards him, and it's good to see that the other guys are capable of punishing teams.

It is just as good ,when I rewatch it on Tivo. It's a strong play

He would have had a couple of touchdowns if he would have run towards the pylon instead of straightening out on that first catch.

I've been saying Austin has the potential to be a good #1 for awhile now.

But he still has a long way to go. On that post route that Romo threw him (that the defender knocked away) Austin never made any kind of outside fake before running the post. It was 1 on 1, and if he can get that CB to turn his hips just a little it would have created separation and might have been a TD.

He still needs work on his route running.

There should be a rule against putting a player's name and "broken" in the thread title.

:laugh2:

Actually I thought I read somewhere that Austin also caught a 13 yarder earlier in the game to go with the pair of deep balls he caught in the 2nd half. It sure does look like we are on our way towards getting a speed WR who can play opposite TO. Give the guy a break though, cause remember he's been out essentially since his injury in 2nd preseason game although I do remember him catching 2 passes against the Eagles.

We just signd Crayton to an extension last year; doubt we cut him next year although his job could be in danger if Hurd, whose only 23 to Crayton's 30, continues to develop into a possession WR w/o the mouth.

Austin did well. A #1?? I don't believe so but who knows. I think, with his speed, he would be great if we can cap him at a #2. He would not be the reason that Crayton wouldn't be on this team, though. If Hurd or Stanbach take off, then that would be the reason for Crayton not to be on the team. All that said, I think I will wait for a couple more games from Austin before annointing him... but I will watch him now. After all, look how many plays Crayton had to make only to have people call him out as a bum and always was a bum because of one poor game..

Speaking Stanback.....did he even play last night?

Let's give Miles another game or two before we say he's broken out.

That's the TO difference.

Three defenders covered him on that play, and left Miles wide open. It doesn't get any easier, and it's all made possible by the opposing defense being scared to death of Owens.

He also beat his man off the ball on the big sack Romo took after the long fake. Romo just couldn't pull the trigger, I think he was a little gun-shy, which wasn't a bad thing.

Ya, jury is still out.........gonna have to add a few more routes to the repitore. He's gonna probably have to start seeing the teams #1 cb 1on 1, while they double TO more often with safety and lessor cb

but the game has to be a huge confidence builder, he looked much improved in the preseason, Romo said as much.....

Competition is good, if Stanbach wants pt......now he is chaseing someone

appears the coaches made the right cuts going into the season, some risks, but always calculated out.....

Whoever is our number #2 has absolutely no excuses not to perform. The amount of attention T.O. and Witten are getting, the number #2 should have a TD a game.

That's partly why Crayton gets so much criticism. He tends to disappear at times even though the D is keying on other people. Overall, I think Crayton is a fine receiver, but if Austin continues to give us deep ball capabilities, he could become our #2.

I don't see Crayton as a viable two and he's been perceived as a 3 for some time. I think this is about right. In fact he might be a better 4. Austin isn't a 1. He's not a 2. Not yet. Maybe never. He's a 4 now and that's where he should be. If he keeps getting open on go and stop and go routes he will have a place on this team due to being opposite TO with Witten underneath and in the seams. I call that a supportive role. TG was a 2. I don't see Austin getting to that level of play.

Austin had a good game coming up with 2 very big plays but now comes the tough part doing it week in and week out. If teams want to take TO out of the mix they can but when they do it Austin and others have to make the pay for it by making the big play. It is all about consistency in sports.

Like I said last night what Austin did was he's FORCED DC's to have to think about him now. Now he's not just the guy with speed who can stretch the field and get a penalty he's a guy with great speed who can finish off the play and make a defense pay for leaving him man up against a 3rd or 4th best cover guy.

What Austin did last night was ensure that he makes it that much harder on Defenses to gameplan for the Cowboys offense.

your right....coaches love consistency.........they can game plan around that. they can depend on that.

Witten is the epitome, Crayton has got to be driving them mad. Maybe Austin can get to a level of Alvin Harper---and take some pressure off TO

a consistent recvr in the slot...Felix ?..shifting to the slot out of a 2 back set........should then have a LB on him...not.....

come on Garrett.....use the noggin..be creative....just pull the tools out of the toolbox and use em'

I don't think it is a matter of Garrett using his noggin as much as it is the WR's getting open. Romo is going to have 2 to 3 options of where he can go with the ball on almost every pass play so it is up to his targets to get open and make the plays

I also saw instances of receivers (clearly) running the wrong routes. There is only so much that Romo and Garrett can do. These guys need to be aggressive, get open, and run the right routes.

Romo covered up the INT by saying that it was his fault, but my money is on TO running the wrong route on that play. No way that TO and Witten should have been that close together in the end zone. TO drew 3 extra defenders near Witten, and hence the INT.
