I have no idea what's going on, but this sport is awesome!

Its an Australian off-shoot of Gaelic Football. They still play 'compromise rules' International games between Ireland and Australia every couple of years.

We like here Rasta in Melbourne it is a religion, if you are looking to pick a team to follow may I suggest Richmond, we are a young developing team on the rise who I make the finals next season. :)

Not really an off-shoot of Gaelic football but there is a series played between Australia and Ireland but played with a round ball and 2 posts and a soccer goal underneath. The game is played on a rectangular pitch too which is quite different to the oval shaped playing arena that Australian Rules is played on.

I used to watch Australian Football all the time when ESPN was in its infancy. I loved the game. They used to show all kinds of different sports back then. Now they're too big to show things like that.

I'm definitely going to learn more about this sport. Ill check out Richmond for sure!

Seems like an entire sport of hail marries. Those guys have serious verticals

The opening post had some good highlights but it didn't have the best "mark" (catch) that I have ever witnessed. This one from back in the 1980's is the best I have seen.

did you all know, the championship game can be replayed again in the event of a tie?

Essentially the same sport - akin to the differences between NFL and CFL football. Sport was taken to Australia from Ireland by Irish emigrants. Started being played on oval fields in Aus because thats all that was available - cricket grounds. The International series team from Australia is from the AFL. AFL teams recruit a lot of young GAA players in Ireland.

I guess the fact that you can make contact and jump into or on a player as part of the action of "marking" (catching) the ball can at time give you that springboard effect an elevate you to great heights. Some of these grabs however are pure elevation off the ground without much assistance from jumping on the opponent. I would image Dez could take some real hangers this was permitted in the NFL, for sure.
