Got rear ended. The guy had State Farm and filed a claim. Not a ton of damage, but my wife and I have pretty bad neck, shoulder and back pain. We went to the local First Choice ER and got X-rays. Everything looks good, but we're both extremely sore this morning. I'm going to call the claims adjuster today. Anyone have any insight? Not my first auto accident, but it's the first time I've been injured.

Happened to me 8 months ago. My wife had a slight injury and went to the hospital to get checked out. Both parties had GEICO insurance. GEICO called us about two weeks after to see how we felt. My wife was OK so GEICO offered us $500 and we took it. Insurance companies look to settle quickly. If you and your wife are still in pain then there are some more steps to do, see some more doctors and such. Everything was done by phone.

Whoever repairs your vehicle ask them to add the price of the deductible on the repair bill and give it back to you. That's what I do.

A few years ago a friend of mine was hit hard at a stop light. Trip to the ER with neck/back injuries. My friend is the kindest, strongest most generous individual I have ever known and that is saying something. If she said she was hurting a little I knew she was hurting a lot. Suing the insurance co was the farthest thing from her mind. They were paying for all kinds of treatments and she tried them all. Little if any improvement and her life had been altered to a point she couldn't do many of the things she loved to do. Finally, at the last minute, I think it was two years after the incident but don't quote me, she relented to our prodding and got a lawyer. Her life was never going to be the same because of the stereotypical texting young bimbo behind the wheel. The insurance co did everything in their power to deny then reduce any claim. They were brutal! She would be in tears after the many depositions. She ended up accepting a settlement after a long, stressful battle. She deserved every penny and a lot more.

Prior to that my own limited experiences with insurance claims had left me with a bad taste. After watching this go down I am fully in the F' the insurance companies camp. Dog eat dog and they take the first bite. Screw em.

Good luck OP and don't screw around. You can always back off but make no mistake. The second your paperwork hits some clown's desk the motivation is to figure out how to reduce or deny your claim and not to make things right. They will use anything they can as a means to that end.
