Available Safeties

Shadeq Shabaz...I like him... He's a big hitter... but what's the deal with Corey Shavous or Cowboys possibly trading for Jerome Woods....?

Bring in Shazor if he was actually released...wow

Shazor if I remember correctly was rated fairly high in the draft....??

YEAH, very highly rated, which is why I find it hard to believe that he was cut. But if he was bring him in NOW

You mean over rated. He is sloooooooooooow. That is why he lasted well into day 2.

I thought we were either picking up Corey Chavous when he got cut or trading for him.

Bengals | H. Jones Waived
Sat, 3 Sep 2005 12:10:08 -0700
The Cincinnati Bengals announced they have waived S Herana-Daze Jones

I saw him play a few times for the bungals.. He might be a PS consideration.. He made some plays this preseason.. But definately a developmental guy

Jeremy LeSeuer probably has the best cover skills of the lot since he played alot of corner at Mich. Wasn't he a 3rd or 4th rounder just 2 years ago?

UPDATE Atlanta Falcons release----Safeties-Shawn Mayer and Cam Thornton.

(WHAT SHOULD BE) Pete Hunter to Jerry Jones/Bill Parcells: I'm sorry for running off at the month and believing my own hype. I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me and allow me a 2nd chance. I don't need to be a CB exclusively anymore. I will play FS, SS, LB or even C if needed. I still believe in my abilities but I will do whatever's necessary at any position to help the Dallas Cowboys get to that next level. Take me with you. That is my plea.

Let me tell you Pete, swallowing your pride isn't as bad as you may think. Hard to do, but once done its over. No after taste. If done for a worthy cause, no fear of it coming back to bite you in the middle of the night.

I know Siddeeq Shabazz.

He's not starting material, but he could be a decent backup and solid special teams guy. Not a real good cover guy, but he's a pretty good athlete, is physical and plays smart.

He's pretty much a self-made player. Almost no one recruited him out of high school, so he walked on at New Mexico State. It's a tribute to him that he's gone this far.

Atari Bigby is alright.. He is more of a hitter from what I saw from him at UCF though.. He goes for the big hit a lot and tends to take poor angles on tackles, but he can cover alright though. He seems to be good at locating the ball and has decent hands.

Why in the world would we want Pete Hunter back? Some people are still under the delusion that Hunter can actually play.

Looking over this group of safeties, it does look like Freeman is the best of the lot, though I wish he had a bit more speed (he runs in the 4.50-4.55 range over 40 yards)...

But on the plus side, he HAS started 29 games in his career, including 9 last season for the Fins... and these last coupla years, Miami has had a very good pass defense (they were 2nd in the NFL last year, 3rd the year before)...

He is a natural FS, but he has also played SS in the NFL (he also played a little CB in college)... a backup ought to be able to play both positions, particularly when the Cowboys have only kept 2 pure safeties on the 53 man roster...

He's never been a star, and you'd hope you wouldn't need him to start for an extended time, but he would offer quality depth...

If his asking price was reasonable...
