Average is as average does

You are what your record says you are. We are 4-4. That's average, no ifs, ands or buts.

this is bad team with bad coaching and average players at best

The Cowboys have enough talent to consistently win 10-11 games every season. They're competitive every week having lost 4 games this season by a combined total of 14 points. They've had the lead in every game they've played but continue finding ways to lose in the 4th quarter and I put most of it on the coaching. The Cowboys have lost 3 games by a combined total of only 5 points. I don't think there's a current team that finds ways to lose games like the Cowboys. Put a solid head coach on this team and the Cowboys would be no worse than 7-1. In 3 of the Cowboys losses they've blown 2 score leads.

Not sure Jerry Jones is ready to walk on eggshells again just yet. The team is still relevant.

They're as relevant as the Kardashians........that's what this team reminds me of. The Kardashians of the NFL, famous for being famous.....not for any acheivement, accomplishment or extraordinary talent.

But back on topic, Jerry will just dump Garrett and get himself another stooge to lead HIS team. The only time he got any credible coach was Bill Parcells and we all know he was only trying to get his Jerry World theme park built at that time.

they are 4 and 4 8 and 8 last two years cant win last game of the season to go into playoffs average team average players bad coaching always find ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

Inflated contracts, over-extended players based on loyalty versus performance, loosing draft picks for "other team's discards" - all end up as MEDIOCRITY! Back in Landry's & Johnson's day - player's feared the coach.... today - it's bud's with the owner! Get use to the just misses and lost victories....

I've often wondered how many teams are .500 the last 16 years or so? Are we one of the few or are there several? I know being average keeps you drafting average or at least to a point since we do waste picks. I still believe that Jerry is going to get to a point, and the fans already are sick of it, to where he HAS to hire a big name coach because being average will eventually get in his pocket book, or at least I hope it does........

San Diego Chargers are pretty close. Something like 130-133 over the same stretch.

No, not at all.[/q

At this point I would not mind going into a semi rebuild mode.
I don't think any Cowboy fan feels opimistic about our future.
After we went 1 and 15 in 1989, it hurt to lose but you knew great things were coming up.
We had great Coaching and GMing from Jimmy, who could coach and evaluate talent.

We went 7 and 9 in 1990 then 11 and 5 in 1991 and were in the playoffs.
Before the salary cap and Jerrys meddling finished off our dynasty we had 3 SB trophies.

I would keep our young talent like Dez and Lee as well as Romo and trade or cut Ware, Witten, Austin, Spencer and the rest of our ageing high priced players.

Oh, and sign a real HC.

Whats the timeline on blowing the team up and dafting the way to a Superbowl? Four years is very, very fast these days. IDK 6 years?
Just seems a little extreme. I know not many people are too sweet on Austin and I have little love for Spencer but I dont care to see Ware and Witten in another uniform.
Who knows man, I hope it doesnt come to that.

I do have a soft spot for both Ware and Witten.
It looks like Ware's body is just starting to break down on him.
It's not his fault, it just happens sometimes.
The NFL is very hard on your body.
I don't know how long Witten can keep up the production at his age to justify his salary.

I feel ya as far as Ware. I for whatever reason feel the same, though not nearly as stong for Ausin.

The contracts that they are given are pretty much a must at the time they get them. Though Miles is absolutely over paid I still feel there is plenty of football left in Demarcus. I look at Mathis and Shaun Phillips this year, though different players they are older than Ware and look to be prime.
We will soon find out. Everything depends on the remaining games. Honestly with the schedule and the way the team plays when hitting on all cylinders I dont think they will finsh any lower than 9-7. Not that thats much to brag about.

I love Ware and he's been a great player for this team but his level of production doesn't justify his price tag anymore. Maybe he comes back from injury and picks it up but I get the feeling it is time to part ways with him as well as several other members of our core. As much as I love these guys this is a business and winning is all that matters. Keeping guys around for sentimental reasons doesn't help you win.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said especially the part in bold. Garrett is the biggest correctable problem with this team (I say correctable because Jerry is a problem too but that is not going to change any time soon so there is no use in pouting over it like so many do). Hire a real coach and we could easily be having a season like the Chiefs.

awesome post. I agree. Still sad to see the guys go and see them in another uniform.

Consider the following:

• The Cowboys this season have earned their 4-4 record, having spent four of the season's first eight weeks at the break-even mark. They were 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 and now are 4-4. Three times they've had the opportunity to climb two games over .500, and three times they've reverted to form, losing 17-16 at Kansas City in Week 2, by 11 at San Diego in Week 4 and by a point to the Lions, on the strength of that remarkable Matthew Stafford-Calvin Johnson-led comeback.

• Dallas in 2012 finished 8-8, and in third place in the NFC East, six times sporting a .500 record: At 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 5-5, 6-6, and finally 8-8, thanks to a two-game season-ending losing streak that cost it a playoff berth.

• The Cowboys in 2011 finished 8-8 and in third place in the NFC East, five times reaching the break-even mark: At 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and 8-8. Stop us if you've heard this one before, but a season-ending two-game losing streak cost Dallas a playoff berth.

• And most remarkable of all? Behold their historic balance: With Sunday's loss, the Cowboys from the start of the 1997 on -- a span of 16 1/2 seasons since the franchise's latest Super Bowl glory era closed -- are a too-beautiful-for-words 132-132 in the regular season, with every win matched perfectly with a loss. It's like being sentenced to life in the middle of the pack, with no chance of parole.

Yes, we have some talented players;however, our offensive line has basically two rookies playing and a RT Free who is not a good run blocker. Our DL is playing well with several players that were out of football. The secondary has two inexperience safeties in Wilcox and Church. Claiborne is playing hurt. It's not hard to game plan against us. We have areas on the roster that are exposed do to injuries and lack of experience. We continue to have problems on the DL, OL and secondary. We draft RB, WR,TE and OL that fail. Oh, now add in no salary cap room to address the areas of need. Average!
