It's just still mind boggling that the Cowboys have Johnny Manziel fall right into their lap and passed on him.
Not really. It's only mind boggling to those who didn't understand what we are trying to do. Just because NFLN and ESPN slobber all over themselves at the thought of JF being a Cowboy doesn't mean he was that high of a priority at Valley Ranch.

I'm not shocked at all. Jerry can not see past the following year. hence 20 years of 500 football. Can't complain about the pick. Very solid.

Apologies, I didn't realize you were an insider on the Cowboys draft strategy...

People who don't like passing on JFB are crazy. I hope he does pan out but it isn't like you only find defensive players in the 1st it was a smart move. If the pick Johnny then Jerry is an idiot but when they make a smart BPA pick it's Will Mcclay apparently lol

I'm not. But I do read and listen to logic not paid mouthpieces who overtalk each other just to be heard.

I apologize for the passive-agressive comment, but logic about this topic cannot be objective. Logic could say that Romo is getting older, coming off of back surgery, and if he goes down we turn to Brandon Weeden.

Logic could also state that our defense was historically bad last year and needed some serious bolstering.

I think Martin is a good pick, but from my view point...we have 10 more picks in this years draft. A potential franchise QB falls into our laps and we pass on him for a tackle who could be good, but could have also been addressed later on in the draft. Heck, both lines could have been addressed with the next 10 picks. I just don't understand passing on Manziel when he's right there, didn't have to give up ANYTHING, and have plenty of other opportunities to bolster our lines in days 2 and 3.

I think we can find a quality offensive lineman in the later rounds; there's not another Manziel out there...

I honestly believe that there was a short board with Barr, Donald and Martin on it. If Martin hadn't been there, they would have drafted Manziel.

It's funny, there was almost certainly never a chance that Manziel was ever heading here, but I'll be darned if I wasn't sitting there sweating on the clock. It's also amazing how the media can beat you down with a story so many times that you will actually start to believe it, even if it makes no sense. Jerry said over and over as close to 100% as allowable (there's no reason tactically to reveal draft strategy) he wasn't coming here. Even the "crazy Jerry" stuff didn't make much sense as Jerry's splashy reaches have either been at least an obvious need or a TE (rim shot). Someone like Mayock saying Jerry couldn't help himself was baseless media drivel. And last but not least was the 6 year extension that hasn't even started yet and the horrible atmosphere created by having a first round pick, Heisman trophy winner now available to have his name chanted after the owner of that contract's first incompletion. It never made one iota of sense.

But again, I can't lie. I was irrationally sweating like a hog.

When he got past TENN and STL, I got worried. I didn't really want him and glad they passed but I am shocked Jerry didn't pull the trigger. I have always said if JF fell to us, we would take him if Donald was gone. Glad things worked out :)

Of course JF wasn't a priority. They are gambling on the future with a 34 year old QB coming off two back surgeries that is limited to dink and dunk passes. Yep, Romo is the priority. I see a bright future of .500 football with him.

I was actually watching the draft with a few Browns fans after I saw they couldn't trade the pick I walked out of the room. I walked to the farthest door from the TV and once I heard Martin's name called I have to admit I went ecstatic.

You think Romo will play forever?

Does that apply to me? If so, no!

I think Manziel will not pan out in the long run. I do think we need to get another QB, sooner than later but JF was not the answer IMO. There are a few QB's left that Dallas should take a look at if they are there in the 2nd/3rd.......Savage, Garoppolo, Carr(he will be gone), Murray and Fales.

I am worried about Romo's back too but did not want Johnny.

Martin is not a sexy pick but definitely a solid pick, providing the type of interior protection Romo needs!

The defense will be addressed with the other 10 picks we have.

We don't know if JF is a franchise QB or not. He has a lot of question marks. Martin will be a OG for us and a pro bowl one at that. A lot of teams passed on him for a reason.

My dream scenario would have been Manziel, Donald, Barr and Martin all available when we picked....would have loved to see what we did. IMO, I think JFF would have been 4th out of that group. Martin was the right choice.

How can you say these two things together? Absolute conjecture.

After thinking about it, he would have never developed his full potential with the current coaches. I don't care about any if the lower rated QBs and considering Romo's contract, Jerry is going to stick with him until its too late.

That's why I like Murray. Manziel's play-style is the exact opposite of our offensive philosophy. He probably would have not been used properly here. They need to draft a prospect to groom because no one will take over as a rookie right now, meaning JF would have been a wasted pick.

I really like Murray but don't want to use our 2nd on him, need the BPA on defense tomorrow.

If Romo shows that he can't compete at this level due to his back in the upcoming season, then go for the next franchise QB in 2015, no holds barred. I haven't really looked to see who the QB prospects are next season but I don't want Winston anymore......he is an idiot.
