Was just reading on the mothership where BB was asked if Awusie is our future at SS. Brian replied that's where he would play him.
So I looked him up on the roster, he's listed at 6'1" and #202. Surely not right ?
Hes a frickin corner, let him play where he was drafted to play and an injured rookie to boot. Dont ruin another high draft pick by trying to make him what he's not.

I'm with you. I think Woods is the most natural FS on the team. I'd rather follow the Seahawks formula - big CBs, a play making FS (Earl Thomas is only 5'10", Woods is 5'11"), and a big hard hitting SS. Jones and Awuzie have prototypical CB size.

Generally we play DBs at both CB and S, plus they will do so to figure out where the player fits best. I have no problem with them doing that with Awuzie, especially since we are thin at Safety right now. Brown has been a bit choppy but Lewis and Scandrick are playing well at CB.

Why is this team forever complicating things? Xavier Woods is the safety you drafted, give him the reigns.

Coaches have been doing this since Jimmy was fired which is a result of the atmosphere (FO).

The time to play Woods (especially at free safety) is now. He needs the experience this year.

Again it’s as if our team is always behind with football operations or have a lack understanding which starts at the top.

People worry too much about size and old school beliefs.

6-1, 202 is fine for a SS. The league has been drifting away from the hulking, big, 6-1, 225lb bruiser safeties and playing guys at both FS and SS that can both cover, etc.

If Awuzie and Woods give us our starting safeties for the next 7-8 years, fine by me.

I don't think its a wasted pick by any means. And if they were gonna groom him for FS I would not quibble about his size at all. But, at SS he is undersized to take - and deliver the pounding that a SS is supposed to give.
I remember an article last year during the season where Woody was interviewed and said he was helping Jones with the position and told him he would need to put on weight to take the rigors of playing FS - let alone SS. Think Jones and Awusie are similar size and weight. And both were drafted really high to be corners with good size for that position. Woods seems like a natural FS, so draft a SS to play SS !
This year there are about 4-5 guys who have prototypical SS size ( 6' 216) - do your research on them all and pick one !!!
My choice would be Harrison from Alabama.
We seem to have enough problems with cross training all these players for position flex - and that's great, but how about stop stunting their development and let them at least learn the position they were drafted to play before you go messing with their heads....... jus sayin.

There are no facts on where he should play. He played multiple positions from what I recall for Colorado. To say he’s this or that should be a moot point. Let’s get him on the field before drawing any conclusions.

I thought they had gotten away from trying to cover themselves with having players play two spot. Alan Ball was on this team forever because of that. But it's such a temporary advantage.... sure, that player may help in a game where an injury occurs, but before the next game, you're going to pick up a player that plays in that position naturally anyway

He did play safety as well at CU.

Awuzie played safety in college.

I’m gonna guess these doubts will be allayed when Chido hits the field

I would try Frazier at Safety first.
