I don't like Brad Sham. I think we see what I call "The Ragu Effect" with Brad Sham and most Cowboys fans. If all you have ever had was Ragu spaghetti sauce, then you will think Ragu is good never having tried a truly good sauce. (I find this all the time with Hotel reviews on Trip Advisor)

I find Brad Sham bland and boring. I think he is a very nice guy and I like him as a person, but I don't like him as the Cowboys announcer.

I don't care for Ragu but I do like Brad Sham and the job he has done over the years as the voice of the Cowboys

I think the value in Sham can be found when you see him work games other than the Cowboys. He does his job as a play-by-play guy very well, IMO. I'm not sure what more you can expect from him.

Ahh, no wonder you don't know what a good sauce is. Ragu is "Old World Style" America is the *new* world! :laugh2:

Actually, living in the NYC area. I've found many Italian restaurants (big and hole in the wall) that had poor tasting sauces. (Italian is my favorite food) I prefer puree bolognese type sauce, and find plain marinara pretty much like listening to Brad Sham. :lmao2:

Evocation of Excitment. Watch replay of Texas Ranger games on HSN when Mark Holtz was calling the games.

Rangers :puke:

I don't have HSN, but I'm not sure Rangers would be my choice of viewing.

And really, don't you think Baseball announcers have to do more to make the game exciting?

It isn't so much the Ragu effect as simply having a certain voice paired with something you like over and over again.

Ragu sucks -- I can't believe people buy that crap. Why not just put ketchup on your pasta?

Nooooooooooooooo.....:shootme:

At one time he was ok. I actually liked him, but with each passing year he becomes more arrogant and annoying. He must have gotten bit by the
Hanson bug.

HSN doesn't exist anymore that I know of.

As for your baseball comment. That should tell you how great Mark Holtz really was. Baseball isn't anywhere near as exciting as football on a play for play bases, yet Brad Sham calling football doesn't compare in anyway to the late great Mark Holtz calling baseball.

This could be true for some I guess, but I spent 30 years in Texas listening to the Cowboys and I never liked Brad Sham.

I used to think that, too, and then Waters replaced him and I gained a new appreciation for Babe.

Really, this is great news. Yeah, Babe sometimes thinks he's a genius for predicting that Parcells would call a draw on 2nd and 12 (my dog knows that, Babe) but he is a perceptive commentator. And he has good chemistry with Sham, IMO. Brad really seems to respect him.

BTW, I do like Sham, but I kind of see what NYC is getting at. Sometimes Brad doesn't describe what's going on well enough. "Toss right, oh, a great block from Colombo!..." and you're thinking big gain. Then you hear that it was a gain of a yard and a half. But I'll still take Brad any day.

Then it's just a matter of personal preference. I think he's pretty decent, but then I'm not one to care about the added sauce effect. Meaning don't drown me with that extra display of excitement. If I'm listening to the game, then I just want to hear the game, because more than likely it's because I can't catch it on TV.

And that's why the Charlie Waters thing didn't work. I didn't sense there was any real chemistry between them. He's a much better writer than radio personality. I hope he continues to write articles for DC.com next year.

Brad Sham could have any radio play by play gig he wanted, it just so happens that at 57 years old he's happy staying in Dallas and doing Cowboy games. When he and Jerry briefly split ways in 1996, it took about five minutes for CBS Radio/Westwood One to hire him to do their nationally broad casted Sunday Night games. He still fills in to do nationally broadcasted Westwood One games if he's not predisposed by the Cowboys. He's won the National Sportscasters award the maximum number of times allowed.

If the ragu theory applies anywhere, its that Cowboy Fans have grown up on momma's sunday sauce their entire lives and take it for granted, because they've never had to eat Ragu.

Glad to see Babe back in the booth, as it should be. Charlie Waters was not good. Just because you have a great football mind doesn't necessarily mean you're good at verbalizing what you're thinking on the fly.

I guess you are right about this, as much as I like Waters, he is not the best broadcaster.

Still, there is just something about Babe I can't stand. I think part of it stems from the way he treated Parcells on their show. A total lack of repect, it seems like he thought he new more about football (and everything for that matter) than Coach Parcells. I think he acts this way with Brad as well.

He's just a big, goofy, cheesy, know-it-all. :lmao:
