Hello everyone.
I got back from Dallas last night, but didn't have the energy to visit here and see the postmortem on the season.
What a gut-wrenching loss. I'm still at a loss as to how we lost that game. All game long it felt like we were on the verge of blowing it wide open, but then we'd get some dumb penalty after a third-down stand, or we'd get a drive-killing drop of our own.
Overall it seemed that while everyone played OK, we didn't make enough PLAYS (with a few exceptions here or there).
I haven't read any of the analysis here yet, and I have yet to watch the broadcast of the game... and I'm not sure if I will... still too painful.
But I'm sure that Crayton is coming off as the goat, and with good reason. That second-to-last play happened in the endzone I was sitting in and I still can't figure out why PC slowed down there at the end. That will haunt me for a long time, because if he keeps running, that's a TD.
That still wasn't as big as giving up that TD at the end of the half. That was simply inexcusable. If that TD doesn't happen, then we win going away.
I thought Romo played extremely well and absolved himself of any blame or criticism from the previous week. He was by far our best playmaker in that game. He was under constant pressure, took a ton of hits after the throw, and made some plays that were amazing. He did take two sacks that he probably shouldn't have, and of course the intentional grounding was an absolute killer. But if everyone else on the team would have played as well as he did, the outcome would have been much different.
The crowd was AMAZING. It was truly a home-field advantage. I yelled my head off on every defensive play, as did everyone else in the stadium. It was deafening. The crowd was also much better when we were on offense. It would get a little loud, but then it seemed that everyone would wise up and shut up when we came to the line. There were hardly any Giant fans there as well, I didn't see any evidence of "wine-and-cheesers" sitting on their hands.
I also want to thank fellow Zoners HTown and Cowboy Jeff and all their friends for hosting us at their tailgate. It was a fun to meet them and hang out before the game. Hopefully they'll post some pictures. Sorry I didn't stop by after, but I don't think anyone was in the mood at that point.
Anyway, what a rough way to end a season. I look back at all the energy I put into following the team this year, and I can't believe it ended this way.
I still have great hope for next year, but it's going to be a tough season with all the ghosts that will inevitably remain from this year... December struggles... playoff win drought... coach who's never won a playoff game... etc. It's going to be tough to take any pleasure from next season unless there's a Lombardi trophy at the end!
