From a purely playing standpoint if Dak gets injured, I can't get worked up over it.

Neither Rush or Grier would give us a snowball's chance in Hell of being relevant.

I hope the coaches keep the guy that will be the most help getting Dak ready to play each week.

I suspect that would mean Cooper Rush would be the choice.

There aren't enough good starting QBs in the NFL much less backups. Keep the guy that can help make Dak better and more productive week in and week out.

Totally false . Throughout the history of the nfl , Backups can be very important . Heck , the eagles won a super bowl with a back up and beat the great New England with Brady and all , just a few years ago . How soon we forget . Not to mention Dak is not a great QB as we have seen .

Backup QB definitely matters. There’s been teams win Super Bowls with backup QBs. The 72 dolphins kept their undefeated streak alive for part of the season with a backup QB. The whole idea is to have a backup QB that can keep you afloat for at least a few games. We won a game with Cooper Rush last season when Dak was out. If we lost him for the season we’re screwed but you need a solid backup in a pinch.

What's sad? We have to rely on the Oline to protect Dak.

I believe you took what the OP meant the wrong way. With the backups Dallas currently has (meaning they're absolutely horrible) it doesn't matter being the season will be over should any of the two have to take over.

I mean historically, the backup to stardom thing does have a very good list of difference makers and Hall of Famers. Whether it was a one year surprise or a HOF type career. Hostetler and Foles won a ring as one year replacement wonders.
Then ya got HOF Kurt Warner and his legacy.

And then, of course, there's the GOAT in Brady. He WAS a backup.

Neither of these guys, like the OP said, is going to make a difference, if Dak misses a lot of time. DeNucci and Grier might make decent backups one day. But they are not there right now. So it doesn't matter who wins the backup job....we're screwed if Dak goes down. No Dak, no playoffs.

I’d love to see Grier with the number one offense. Until we do it’s hard for me to say if he could, or couldn’t, help this team win multiple games if Dak had a significant injury.

i don't think Grier is horrible. I saw his at Weest Virginia and we saw him last night . he is a gamer with huge potential. What we do know is that Dak is not that great and losing him does not mean the season is over just because he is out. People are too affected by the season when he got injured and forget the team was basically 1-4 with him as the starting QB . and the poor back up QB was blamed for the season. This team can win with Grier if given a chance.

you nailed it . The goat came in as a back up and won 6 super bowls and played in 9 and still going, same for the others you mentioned. Dak is not that important for this team . Grier can win . Saw him during his college career , and we saw him last night. During practice the analysts were raving about him.

Is this a new concept? Is it any different for the other 31 teams?

Confused. While our line is not the best in the NFL, but there are many teams in similar or worse positions.

I disagree qbs can get on hot runs foles , manning, Flacco
If the team around them is solid back ups can succeed
