Backup QB matters when you need one for a few games. If your starter is out for the season, good luck.

Nick Foles 2017 is an outlier. Expecting your backup QB to be able to do that is fool's gold. Stop expecting it to be the norm. It's not and never will be.

Even Foles himself hasn't been able to come close to replicating that magical run. He's gone back to what he was, prior to that brief shining moment.

Backup QB can matter.

Romo was a backup, Staubach was a backup, Brady was a backup.

It matters.

If you think it doesn't, it can cost your season. Or the future of your team.

The number of backups to play in Super Bowls is pretty high, near 10.

Heading into 2016 Dak was a back up himself and the team won without him last season so the backup does matter.

It's a cultural thing for this team. In the past 20 years the QB position has been neglected. We dont draft QBs high. We don't trsde for good QBs. We rely on a hodge podge of QBs, hoping than 1 or 2 work out from time to time. We dont worry about backups - camp arms will do.

I think this is Jerry trting to be different to Jimmy J who always liked to have 2 starting calibre QBs on the roster and who invested heavily in the position.

Paying Dak was a purely ego move by Jerry ...."....I have the highest paid QB in football...". Nothing to do with investing in the position.
