Backup QB problem

Yeah, but one of them actually won a Heisman.
I think RGIII would have been a good NFL QB, except Shanahan ruined his chance.
Most likely his devastating knee injury cost Griffin his career. He never really recovered to that level of his Rookie season without his legs. It was the second time with basically same injury when at Baylor. That leg was shot after that.

this is a lazy argument.

this organization has thousands of fans who say things like this. The Dallas Cowboys have all the money in the world, they had cap space and they had a ton of draft picks this past year. They should have used both of those assets to turn over every rock possible to make sure they don’t lose another season to a quarterback injury. They lost the 2015 and 2020 seasons due to this and should do everything possible to make sure it never happens again.

here is the reality, they view it as a non issue because they expect Dak to play 17 + games this year. They know or at least I think they know Gilbert and dinucci have no chance to win a game let alone multiple games for them. They just ride it out hoping everything will turn up Roses because that is always their strategy.

Think of it this way, Cooper rush left and they didn’t seem has even good enough to be the third quarterback here, he went to New York to play for the guy that drafted him that everyone says is one of the worst coaches ever. NY cut rush and he was resigned in Dallas. Why. Well because Dak likes him and likes him in the qb room for meetings and studying etc. this is the same reason kellen Moore is the offensive coordinator, because Dak likes him and didn’t want to learn a new offense.

anyway. This front office had plenty of resources and time to make sure no matter what they are ok if the starting qb was still hurt or gets hurt during the season. They did nothing. Sting but who would you sign is nonsense. They could have worked a trade or spent some money on a veteran like trubisky.

the philosophy here is I know this guy just punched me in the face three times so I won’t put my hands up and protect myself this fourth time because man he wouldn’t do it again.

Nailed it.
I was hoping they would sign Trubisky. Great signing by Buffalo.

A perfect example why Jerry fails as a GM. It should have been obvious how bad these backups were before the season started. After watching them play in preseason it should be screaming at Jerry. With Dak coming off a major injury and also having throwing shoulder soreness, Jerry should be beating the phones to find a better backup QB.

If MM isnt knocking on Jerry's door every morning telling him the same thing, then I blame him also. We can barely move the ball in preseason let alone during the regular season with these chumps backing up Dak.
Jerry doesn't invest in the quarterback position (draft picks or trades) except overpaying them.

It has something to do with it....most of the time.... especially the draft.

I stand corrected. What I should have said was, "Winning the Heisman as a QB has nothing to do with performance as a QB in the NFL anymore considering that most NCAA QB's are really RB's with strong arms."

Yes , the OL is a critical component as we saw when it first begun dominating in 2014 with Demarco Murray. But we also saw in 2015 how it wasn’t as effective with a RB by committee.

While we might not be an offense that needs to establish the run first it probably is still an effective way to control time of possession while masking our weaknesses on defense keeping them off the field .

Remember even when our offense was throwing up records numbers last year we still were coming up short cause we couldn’t hold our opponents.

Pounding the rock and dominating time of possession has led this team to the most success we’ve had since assembling this OL.

And I suspect much like it did for Romo it will take pressure off of Dak making our offense more effective while helping our defense.

I’d feel much more confident with our defense that we’d be in the playoffs if Elliott leads the league in rushing versus Dak leading the league in passing.
Sounds great now tell zeke.

Very rare for a backup qb to lead a team to the Super Bowl. At least the Cowboys have a good starting qb. Most teams do not have that.
Our backups are useless. Doesnt have to be that way.

we lack a true number 2 QB that much is clear. If Dak can't play well. we R done. Blake Bortles startin to look better and better lol

So sad that the guy doesnt understand the value of developing promising young QB's. It could be argued that he was an idiot for passing on Fields this year when he had the chance. I would NEVER pass up on a franchise QB.

You're right. I agree, but why couldn't he have come here and signed the same 1 year contract with the Cowboys as Dak's backup?

Very good question. Because they overpayed Dak and Tank... There's not enough cap space to sign a backup for 2 million dollars... Don't forget.... This isn't a business to the Joneses. It's a toy.... They play GM because they don't know how to be a real GM.

Totally false.

Whoever it is, they can get by for one game. At least we have one of the better starters in the game today.

There is no reason why the Cowboys shouldnt be developing a young promising backup at all times. Its been Jones MO since Aikman and Walsh..................NOT to get any good young QB as not to rock the boat. I completely disagree with that strategy. Im drafting great young QB's whenever I get the chance. Especially with the price of them going to 40 million and up. The SMART GM's will be developing young QB's just like they develop any other position.

Had we drafted Fields this year in a year or two if the kid develops you can either trade Fields for more than a first round pick, or move on from Dak if the price is too high or if Fields is the real deal.

A young promising qb? More than half the league doesn't have a promising qb.
