Backup QB problem

It doesn't matter.
If Prescott is out for any length of time, this team isn't going anywhere, anyway.
And it's not like Prescott is a proven player, either. Some people think he is.
But he's got something... don't know exactly what...
.
I hope he lives up to that $160,000,000.00 contract. Otherwise, it's another meatball on Jerry's face.

The Cowboys have one of the best qbs in the league. More than half of the league doesn't have one.

Why would I care what other teams do or dont do?

I guess you would base your strategies on what bad teams do? Sounds like a winning plan.

You would probably care about how hard it is to get a decent qb. I'm based on reality, not fantasy.

Exactly so keep trying. Drafting and developing. Thanks for proving my point. Your cry baby angle that it’s too tough is a loser mentality.

If your quarterback is out for 3 games, a good team should be able to go 2-1 on running and defense. And if you can't, or if your quarterback is out longer, you're doomed, and you'd rather have the higher draft pick.

Looks like the Falcons already scooped up Josh Rosen. That's who we should have signed.
Watch Rosen stick around in this league a long time playing QB2 and become one of the greatest pay check collectors since Alex Smith.

Agree re the meatball.

But the reality is that there's not much difference between Dak and some of the names mentioned on this thread - would it really make a difference if you substituted an experienced vet?

Jerry has basically hit the lotto with the last two QB's even though we've yet to get a Championship from either... it is still crazy after the purgatory we were in after Aikman that they hit on two pretty much "no names". They better have someone in house to groom to take over for Dak within the next two years or we will probably be back in that purgatory before we know it. Lightening, I doubt will strike 3 times.

He would be more Chase Daniel than Alex Smith.

12 seasons, $38 million made, 2-3 career record. Smith was good in San Fran and KC. From 2011 to 2020 he’s been above .500 every season he’s played

People fell in love with Gilbert based on ONE game against a team that was on the cusp of free fall and didn't show up that day.

There's a reason he didn't catch on with anyone until he was almost 30.

I don't mind Nooch but the guy is very far away from being an NFL QB and can't be counted on.

I think it's tough to carry a guy like him unless the #2 is rock solid.

If Dak goes down for any length of time the season is toast anyway......but if he goes down for say 4-6 weeks, I doubt either one of the backups would salvage the season.

The Cowboys themselves fell in love with Gilbert based off a decent game vs Steelers ... so much that they decided that they did not need to explore any backup vet QB going into the
FA period. Likely felt they know and trust Gilbert's game enuff from that one game, team meetings, and offseason work and can also save money.

I heard Jerry on 105.3 the Fan radio says something like " we had a good backup in Andy Dalton and where did that get us ? " .. and from a GM guy
that has had experienced the likes of Kosar, Rodney Peete, and Jason Garrett in pinch situations, .

. And from a history breaking horrid defense, and injury shambled OL,.. what did Jerry think a backup type was gonna do ?
Did Jerry think Dalton was gonna be Kurt Warner 2.0 ... ?
