Backup QB?

It’s pretty clear that the team is “all in” this year and are going to make a hard run at the SB based on all their offseason moves.

Any ideas on what to do at backup QB though? I know Dak has been pretty healthy but if he goes down, who’s taking us to win the title? I really doubt Rush and Denucci (sp) are the answers. I’d rather have a veteran presence back there but I don’t see any FAs either (Newton wants to start.) I sure hope McClay and company have a plan..

We have ok QBs for a game or two during the regular season. Let's say Dak gets a concussion. We don't have a Nick Foles or Bernie Cosar to come in and save the day.

Kellen Moore puts on the pads. :D

I'd like to see the team bring in a solid veteran backup with *good* starting experience just in case.

If Dak is lost for the year in September, maybe we're privately saying to ourselves, "Okay, we'll see what Rush and DiNucci have, and we'll position ourselves for a top 5 pick so we're gonna be ready to explode on some people next year when our QB is back and we'll have added an elite pass-rusher or whatever. Lemonade out of lemons and all that." But if we're in a fight for our lives for a playoff spot in late November and Dak has to miss a couple games, there's no virtue in tanking or "seeing what the kids have" at that point. At that point, we just want to stop the bleeding and survive those couple of games without losing each of them so we keep the car running for when Dak is able to hop back in.

Last year was the dumbest scenario ever, where Dak hurts his hands/fingers and, despite his grip and throwing being severely harmed, we refused to pull him because our backup was such trash that it was inconceivable to us to let him see the field over a QB who can't hold or throw the ball like he needs to. It's insanity. It's like if when Terence Newman had plantar fasciitis in his foot, if we said, "Man, it's a shame this guy whose entire game is based on running has a foot injury. But I guess we have to leave him in anyway. Oh well."

If they were all in they would have kept Byron, among others. The cost of the players we let go dwarfs the cost of the ones we brought on.

Our big spend was Cooper, but that was baked into the cake the moment we traded a 1st for him.

I see us spending about as we had last year. No big splashes in free agency. We're still building through the draft. And wow, that worked out this year.

Sign: Flacco
Cut: Rush
Practice Squad: DiNucci

QB backup situation set for years

This topic has been beaten to death. The Cowboys have already PAID & stated they're sticking w/Rush.

I hope he does have a chance to play at some point just to see all those stats the Dak haters (we know who you are) will post on Rush' performance vs Dak'. Oh wait....:lmao:

I'm pulling for Rush ( 'cause if he's not a #1 pick backing Dak, he sucks). You guys want Dak benched, so whoever is the backup other than Rush, soon as he misses a throw..."get rid of him". Let Rush play with all these weapons in preseason. Then if he's that bad, get the rookie QB in as backup or another vet.

I myself think Rush will survive if he has Cooper, Gallup, Lamb, Jarwin to throw to, and Zeke/Pollard to hand it off to.

Dak wanted to play. No way Garrett pulls him.

No, we don't believe in backup QBs. If Duk goes down we just shuck the season.

Yeah. Rush needs a chance to improve upon is 1/3 for 3 yards. I believe 2 passes didn’t even make it past the LOS and he was playing in garbage time where stats are easy to come by.
