Backup QB?

Dak wanted to play. No way Garrett pulls him.

And it cost Garrett his job. If Garrett decides to wear pants and actually brings in a real backup with some talent, he is probably still the HC in Dallas. He probably wins against Philly and makes the playoffs. That probably saves his job.

Who cares what Dak wanted? If he can't throw the football to wide open guys 10 yards down field, then next man up. That's just how it is. Always has been. Nobody ever wants to come out of a game but then again, that's why you have Coaches. They make that call, not the players. That's the way it's gotta be right?

It’s pretty clear that the team is “all in” this year and are going to make a hard run at the SB based on all their offseason moves.

Any ideas on what to do at backup QB though? I know Dak has been pretty healthy but if he goes down, who’s taking us to win the title?

Odds are good the answer is no one. You can count the number of back up QBs who have come on to lead their team to a title on one hand.

Flacco is probably at the point where he will accept a backup role on a good team.

Any team trying to contend that doesnt have a backup with any experience at all is being stupid.

What of you're 7-2 and Dak is out 4 games? Would you rather try to stay afloat with a guy like Flacco or send Cooper Rush on in?

I truly dont get the mentality, especially since two seasons in recent memory were destroyed by awful backup QB play.

i just dont understand how anyone can look at the nfl just last season and not see the value of a legit backup qb for contending teams. look at the saints and chiefs. what if matt moore doesnt come in for mahomes and win those games and the chiefs lose the bye? i know they are stacked but that makes their road to a championship that much tougher.

also people can talk about daks durability all they want and he has been durable but he was hurt last year and it cost the cowboys a playoff appereance against the eagles. and dont tell me they trust cooper rush because if they did he would have been playing against the eagles with so many jobs and the season on the line when it was very very obvius dak didnt have anything.

Remains to be seen how much of this was Garrett influenced.

I'm hoping SJones at some point steps up and claims we need a veteran backup.

We didn't run the football vs the Eagles, 16-54 yards. Week later vs Commanders, 36-223 yards, we win. More so not using Zeke/Pollard vs the Eagles why the offense struggled.

any half-ways decent backup would do fine given the level of talent around him,,, Flacco would be great IMO.

I’d rather have a veteran presence back there but I don’t see any FAs either (Newton wants to start.) I sure hope McClay and company have a plan..
Ok..

You guys can waste time in an offseason that may never end if you want..

but I think Rush is firmly our #2 and if Dak falters..

He should be the first guy to replace Dakyboy.

Do not know how much you have watched Rush play..

he does some pretty creative things occasionally.

BTW..he has a very lively arm and can run, too.

3rd in the NFL in passing yardage is pretty impressive for a guy who can't throw to wide open guys 10 yards downfield.

I get that there is some room for uncertainty with just how far Dak can take a team, but let's at least stick to some level of reason.

This is why the DiNucci pick was so important. If you're hanging on to an unproven backup QB's, there should always be a young guy behind him trying to take his job. Rush should not be comfortable in his job.

Flopped with 2 teams and makes Jay Cutler seem likable. Great idea, indeed.

Flopped? You mean two of the very worst teams in the NFL couldn't instantly win with him? Maybe with good coaching and a strong supporting cast things are different. But yes- there is risk there, which is why it only would make sense to give very little for him.

As far as likability- do you have any objective facts to support your contention? Serious question.

I remember all the conspiracy theories about Garrett sabotaging Phillips, yet that all turned out to be BS. Wade confirmed it.

Rosen is smart, young, with a good arm. Not too long ago he was drafted #10 overall. He would be an instant massive upgrade over what Dallas has now.

Agree that Garrett was crap, but as for Dak, I just cant agree about paying him elite money.

The shame of it all is now that we have MM and a great draft behind us we still dont have a starting QB signed. We need to get this finalized either way and move forward
Dak is going to get 33-35 million a year. The problem right now is Dak wants a shorter deal while Jerry wants a longer deal. Should have gave him the 28-30 million last year before everybody started getting signed.

In a couple years Dak won't even have a top 10 contract. McCarthy it's known to develop QBs and if they don't sign Dak this year I'm afraid the price for Dak will go higher. Time is on Daks side not the Cowboys.

Flacco? Joe Flacco? Are you serious?

QBs that I would rather have include:

Rosen
Dalton
Moore
Siemian
Bortles
and heck, I'd keep Rush over Flacco.
