With 8 seconds to go, and no times outs for the Iggles, Zimmer puts in a strange Defense.

The result, Iggles pickup an easy first down and kick a FG with 1 sec left.

Very strange.....
if I recall this play, it went to the Eagles' left didn't it?

total give up either by design or by execution.

Here's the biggest problem. There was absolutely no one he was covering in the middle of the field. However, you could see the receiver on the left sideline since the beginning of the play. It was like he faked going deep either. He was running very slow and turned around early.

Bradie James sucks, folks. SUCKS.
Looking at the picture, he could have been eyeing westbrook who is in the bottom of the picture and easily could have gotten to the 35 if Garcia went that direction. I'm thinking that when Garcia rolled out to the left James figured out he was going to Greg Lewis. But before that happened I think Westbrook was his responsibility.

IMO, there are two things wrong with this picture
A - the MLB has the responsibility of covering the sideline, but also to watch Westbrook. Speedy Gonzalez couldn't do that
B - 3 are rushing and one is covering the back, that leaves 7 men to cover the sidelines and deep middle (end zone). There had to be a breakdown in the secondary.

I find it hard to believe that the left sideline was the MLB's responsibility.

that wasn't zimmer. it was parcells and his famous prevent defense, that rarely works

If you watch the play you can see two ILBs in the area. James is on the defensive right and Burnett is on the defensive left. When Westbrook comes out of the backfield, he is being shadowed downfield by Burnett. James' responsibility was the other side of the field. The receiver was on the sidelines and was clearly slowing down 10-15 yards from the LOS and turning around. There's absolutely no doubt that it is James's responsibility.

They straight up got this play from the Chargers playbook. The Chargers run this a lot in prevent situations but it works for them somehow...

Maybe the Chargers' ILB doesn't blow his assignment.

Well Donnie Edwards is one of the best pass defending LB's in the league so yes you have a point.

This formation is COMPLETELY disturbing to look at.

If 'stuff' like this continues, we're in trouble large.............(I think we're in trouble large).

Yep, that's the Zimmer defense at its finest.

The formation really isn't the problem. We basically needed to cover 3 areas (green) -- both sidelines 10-15 yards from LOS and the endzone.

Defenders were in position to cover all 3. One of defenders just ***** up really bad.

so i guess Zimmer thought it was okay for them to get in field goal range as long as they dont score a touchdown?? i dont think its a situation where you want a prevent defense

That makes sense. Still, I don't understand the logic of using an ILB to cover the sideline.

I think just about every DB at the game was in there. Heck, TO was in on that play. ILBs get coverage assignments all the time.

I simply believe Parcells and Zimmer were caught with their trousers around their ankles. Reid had to be laughing inside at what he saw on the field.

To be honest with you I would probably call that same play again in hind-sight. What I wouldn't do is have Bradie James in the game.

That I totally agree with. His recent play doesn't bode well for future development on that side of the ball. I hope he's the true ball hawking leader in the middle we paid him to be. I hope he's just going through a rough spot.

Didn't read the whole thread, but.................
This very same thing happened, on the very same side, with the very same absent LB. Alge Crumpler was just as wide open and Mexico didn't see him. Would of been a TD for the Falcons.
I think I mentioned last off season that I'd be very interested in Bradie's play once Dat was no longer on the sideline directing traffic. I believe Bradie James' "light coming on" was all Dat. JMO, Of course.
