Baldinger: Are the Cowboys watching what the Ravens linebackers tandem does?

Here is what will happen at linebacker in the offseason. We will draft a late round guy, hype up LVE as being "in the best shape of his life" deemed a full go, and THAT will be the linebacker moves we make. "BTW, CLARK HAS HAD A GREAT CAMP." All these things is what we do.

dont worry

cowboys will draft some more “versitile” safety to play lb next year that will fix it

If only we drafted a generational LB talent with freakish speed to roam the middle of our defense at the top of the draft. The only way to mess something like that up would to do something stupid like play him out of position at DE…
Yep this board screamed to put him at edge full time and then complained when he couldn't keep playing against guys 80lbs heavier every play and getting double teamed. This when we were heavy at De and thin at lb.

Now we only rush him from edge and people think he's one dimensional and can't stop the run. Lol

Only if the man wanted us, guy is still playing at a high level
I think it was a money deal, team was trying to get a discount. Most are looking at the players we have the LB/Safety Hybrid deal. But deeper blame goes to LB coach. Although they undersize there was many chances for them to make plays. 80% of the issue is the fact they are slow recognizing plays, slow to react, placing themselves out the play, lack of shooting gaps, not understanding their assignments. Then the other 20% go to their size. Which believe it or not, really wasn't a issue majority of the time.

The difference is 2 big lbs playing closer to the line who have a better chance to shed blocks.

However, what stood out more to me is how bad the technique from the Texans was. 63 and 77 with a terrible blocking effort. I get what 63 was trying to do get downfield cutoff the LB open up a lane and move onto his next block but he never really did much. 77 was double teaming on the edge, but left the other LB free to make a play. If he hits the edge player then got up on the LB this play should yield a nice run. Then #8(WR) could have blocked a db instead of having to come all the way over to try to block an LB. Play design and technique matter.

Wrong 2 comp picks from round 5/6 so basically 4 picks in 5 rounds - only one missing is round 4

RD 1 C
RD 2 LB/CB
RD 3 RB
RD 5 DT

FA - Madibuke/Jones and Henry
Neither Madubuike nor Jones are going to hit free agency and a 5th round comp is basically a high 6th round pick.

Nope. In Dallas we prefer light weight safeties' to linebackers. Small nose tackles to big buses. Small running backs. Dumb coaches. Quarterback that needs a whisperer.

Jerry Jones knows former first-round drafted quarterbacks. He will trade mid-round picks and quickly move heaven-and-earth to acquire them from a team no longer wanting their former starting quarterback.

Quality linebackers? Jones does not know linebackers.

Jerry has all the answers.
Jerry doesn't control all about the team. The team needs a good linebacker and accountability back. Safeties and linebacker once were considered most easily replaced. Not now, today.

To be fair I’m sure Quinn wanted to bring in wagner….I don’t think it was his choice to pass on that

Micah plays edge so he can be paid top dollar like an edge

Hes not a great 4-3 DE
He's not a great linebacker either. He's a better rusher than linebacker. I never thought much of him as a linebacker. When has he ever hit a rb like a brick wall? College or pro? People can go back to the cotton bowl they love to bring up for the answer too.

Wasn't just the Ravens linebackers. It seems to me that LBs have been making big plays throughout the playoffs, like Barnes sealing the W for Detroit with a INT. I know we have Overshown coming back but I hope they invest in LB during the offseason.

I mean if the goal is to imitate the Ravens then that is the other position the Ravens are loaded at.
This does not need to imitate any team. They need to start fielding a solid team with quality players. Stop trying to cut corners and play money ball. I bet SJ pressed DQ to keep playing those hybrids to save money.

We need 2 strong and physical LBs. Personally I would like to see a 3 RB rotation like the Giants had in the 2007 season (Jacobs, Ward and Bradshaw). It'll allow a change of pace, and it'll give opposing DCs more trouble to plan for..

We didn’t trade for Roquan because we were not going to sign him to the big contract the Ravens did. Sure would have been nice though and just saved money in other areas.

He's barely played lb but he's been good when he has. He started 1 game his freshman year at lb but lead the team in tackles. As a sophomore he won the butkus award and was an all American. In his second year playing lb ever and first year starting.

He's better at de cause that's what he's always played. He would be every bit as good as roquan if he played MLB as his regular position and had a year or two to hone his skills there. I don't believe he is one dimensional like everyone here says. He's shown he can move in coverage and run sideline to sideline. Ive seen he's physical enough playing de and throwing guys around, he can shed guys as a lb.
