We haven't invested the same resources in the position that others have. And Mazi was a fringe first rounder on top of that with a ceiling of being a big body in the middle. He didn't have the ceiling of some other prominent first round DTs.

Carter will likely be good. Davis? That's a different story. He's basically in bust territory at this point. The fact the Commanders aren't getting more out of Payne and Allen is criminal. Shoot, Jerry, make a call and see if you can get one of them in a trade.
Even if you invest a high pick on a DT, it doesn’t guarantee anything. Carter was a top 10 pick and Philly is having issues against the run. Carter would’ve been drafted in the top 5 had it not been for issues. By the time the Cowboys pick there’s better players available than the DTs that are left. Washington isn’t about to trade any more players on their DL.

I usually look at Points Against as the main defensive stat (I mean, if your giving up 6 yds a carry, but as a team ur only giving up 18 pts a game, do you really care?)

...but yeah, defenses just aren't as physical as they used to be.... and with passing rules the way they are this is almost to be expected.

On the flip side, I think OLines are more athletic and physical these days compared to ye olden days

Interesting note. Dallas gave up 4.9 yards per carry in each of its games. Seems like we stopped the run against Cleveland, right? They only ran 19 times but for 93 yards. NO ran for 190 on 39 carries.
39 of that was Watson on 5 scrambles. The 2 backs were 14 for 54!

Well then the Cowboys would have been wise to invest some FA dollars in the position.

Regardless, they have arguably the worst DT rotation in the NFL. I really don't care to hear the excuses like where they were drafting, etc.

With the big bucks they’ve had to pay to extend players they couldn’t invest big money in a quality DT. No question their DT position is terrible. They’re going to have to seriously address it after this season.

False.

Stop buying the Cowboys whining about being cap poor. They aren't. If they wanted to, they easily could have created space this past offseason to sign a quality DT.

Like you know exactly what’s going on with her calf situation. It’s always easy to manage the cap when you’re talking from your couch.

Also, a good point. I guess I needed to check the stats better, although you generally expect YPC to fall some with more carries. I expect with some young LBs playing (along with one old one) and the interior of our line being suspect that this might be who we are, at least until those younger linebackers mature a bit, primarily Overshown and Liufau ... I think Clark may be what he is at this point.
I agree and you can see the hesitation at times or uncertainty of what to do when you watch them. I also believe that with playing experience they will become more aggressive.

But I thought the Eagles schooled us by drafting Carter and Davis. I read it on here countless times.
Both players fell into their laps and were no-brainer picks.

With that said, I always thought Davis would under-achieve in the NFL. He just seemed like one of those unicorn athletic freaks whose play wouldn't actually translate to the field for one reason or another-- I had no real analysis other than that.

His career is still early though, so plenty of time for me to be wrong.

Is this supposed to make us fans feel better, we still stink....bottom line....we will probably get into the playoffs just on how bad the division is.....I just dont see how the DL gets improved enough to make a serious run.

Both Eagles and us are deeply flawed. Will be very tight to win the division and then get destroyed in the playoffs.

I am certain the numbers Balding posted include QB runs. I was just commenting on the coincidence.
Yeah but,
If Zeke and Rico ran for 70 yards on 20 carries and
Lamb and Turpin ran for 70 yards on 3 jet sweep carries
I bet there wouldn’t be a lot of threads here celebrating that 6ypc and declaring that Zeke was back to 2016 form.
Sometimes you have to look at the context of those runs… unlikely we win any game the RBs average 5.8 and yet the defense dominated that Cleveland game!
