Baldy's NFL Draft Top 5 Guards and Tackles

I am really starting to like Chandler Zavala. You likely can get him in round 3. He’s a bit older as he will be 24 when the season begins.

At NC State he was handing the starting job in 2021 and in five games at left guard he allowed no sacks and just 4 total pressures before suffering a back injury ending his season.

In 2022 Zavala made 13 starts at left guard and had an elite year as he again didn't allow a single sack and just 4 pressures on the year.

The past two years he's been elite as a pass blocker - he hasn't allowed a single sack and just 8 pressures during that period

Hell, come to think of it, I'm not sure any of the OTs or guards are top 10 slam dunk picks

Just read Broaderick Jones is visiting the Chiefs ............ the last pick in the 1st. What does that tell ya
Dallas met with Jones a while back too, which might explain why Stephen was so coy this week about where Tyler would play. I don't think Tyron is in the mix for anything except swing tackle unless Steele has a setback. It's lying season, after all.

+1 ....... one personnel insider suggested his best position may be C
I saw one draft guy say that he thinks the analysts and mocks are much higher on Skoronski than teams. So I would love a scenario where that plays out and he falls to us. Extremely unlikely but a man can dream.

I looked up Skoronski's Mockdraftable to jog my memory, and his closest athletic comp is literally Connor Williams.

If that's the case.... shoot. He might be a center.

How is he as a run blocker?

How is he as a run blocker?
  • Has the natural power to move defenders at the point of attack. Zavala also has the agility and speed to get out in front and land blocks at the second level. He also shows a good understanding of angles when climbing to the second level.
  • He's an impressive power run blocker - In 2021 at NC State the offense averaged 172 rushing yards per game when he played, 93.1 ypg after he was knocked out for the second half of the season
  • Zavala plays with good leverage and he’s a surprisingly good mover for his size, showing fluidity and flexibility when blocking on the second level.
  • He’s a coordinated athlete who can win at the point of attack in the run game, and Zavala can also move to consistently land blocks
  • Consistently keeps his feet sliding while maintaining power when dealing with speed, often sending speed rushers flying past the pocket
  • In the run game, he explodes off the line of scrimmage and consistently gets out to the second level to do damage.

I like Tippmann at 5. I think with his length, he would be a better NFL guard.

Bit of a red flag being that he has a back surgery in his past, but Zavala is a good player.

An older offensive lineman is not a bad thing.

In fact it may be a positive.

If we get to draft any of these guys (and I'll add Tippmman, JMS and Vorhees to the list) I'd be good with it.
