Think I 've brought this up 3 or 4 times in other threads without much of a response.

I don't think it deserves it's own thread but WTH, it's May31st.

I'm not talking about a full time switch here. Maybe 20-25 plays.

Lets say we average 63 plays a game.

Down and distance and game situation will dictate a 3 WR set for about 18-20 plays a game.

I'd like to see Bennett with Witten in a two TE set for another 20-25 plays.

That would leave about 20-25 plays for a two back set.

Don't you think Barber at FB for those plays keeps our best players on the field?

I'd rather have him on the bench staying fresh for the 4th than Lead blocking....But I do wonna see some mis-direction plays with him and Felix both in the backfeild

No, I don't think so.

They are going to have times when they have both Felix and Barber in the backfield so Barber will be technically be playing FB. I just wouldn't expect them to ask him to block as a FB very often if any.

If we do anything, I expect it will be using Choice at FB a bit. Not to run block but as a receiver.

Or pass block.

Here's why I think it could work well.

1) Saves a roster spot. No need to carry a FB.

2) He could do it very well. He's strong, runs well with power and is a good blocker. He's also be a much better receiver out of the FB spot than anyone we're likely to find.

3) We could use one of our LB's at FB in goal line and short yardage as the Pats have done with success. This would give us a larger and stronger player at FB and free up Barber to play RB in those spots.

I wouldn't use him as a FB, but I would like to see more of the Pro Set formation where barber along with Felix lines up in the backfield and defense will not know who the designated runner will be. This formation also works well for screens and the passing game.

The image below features a RB and FB, but the FB can be substituted for another RB:

If Barber is in at FB, I dont think he would be in to run block more than a few times the whole season.

Either smash up the gut, or something to get the defense off balance and get Felix to the corner.

I think you'll see that a few plays here and there with felix as the tb.

However I think the most logical usage of that formation would be to break Felix into motion effectively making him a wr and barber the tb.

Not to mention we don't run FB sets as much as we did with the 90s SB teams, not like he'd be worn out, but it would create some interesting mis-matches and mis-directional plays, anything to keep the defense in suspense mode.

Here's why I hate it: MBIII has an Earl Campbell running style which is running over people not around them. It will lead to a short career already. I think it is a bad idea to ask to be a lead blocker as well. Picking up the blitz is one thing, being a battering ram as a lead blocker is another. Hopefully now that his toe is healed he'll have a great season as a half back. Remember he only has so many plays in him'
