Newy Scruggs of NBC 5 in Dallas-Ft. Worth is reporting that Marion Barber's quadriceps injury will keep him out of action for one to two weeks.

Scruggs has team connections as a local sports anchor who hosts a radio show on the Cowboys station. The 1-2 week timetable has not been reported elsewhere, though, so it's far from concrete.

At least it is good to know that his injury doesn't appear to be season-threatening. If there is a time to be injured, now is the time. I am sure Choice and Felix will carry the running game just fine for the next few weeks. What ever happened to the Lattimore kid? Did we retain him to the PS?

it's just tiresome that every time a guy has a decent game or run of games people are ready and willing to dump our starters in favor of them.

just because a player is effective in his role doesn't mean we need to start benching starters in favor of them.

honestly, the whole felix versus barber as the starter thing has rubbed me raw and I am tired of hearing it.

Dump our starters??? Barber is injured.

I really believe Choice can handle the load.

It's becoming clear that Barber is the one you need to protect and not overwork.

do you people realize it's a very real possibility that the reason Jones is so successful is because of his role as the change of pace?

I am so tired of the whining people do, like they know better than professionals.

Felix still needs more touches, I don't care what anyone says. Can we get a designed screen this year or what? I never said that Felix should start, never said Barber should lose touches.. but we need to work Felix into the offense more.

What was all the talk about unleashing Felix? Putting him and Barber both in the backfield and motioning Felix out? Motioning Felix out of a single back set and sending him out on a pass route? What happened to all this talk about creating mismatches with him? Using him like the Eagles used to use Westbrook when he was healthy? We haven't seen crap yet.

I'm sure we're "saving it". What the hell are we saving it for?

I'm not *****ing just to *****, you know. Never said Felix should get the ball 20+ times a game, but I was seriously expecting at the very least 10+ a game. If we're just gonna use a guy for 8 runs a game, we could have gotten a change of pace back in a later round, not with a 1st round draft pick.

And I'm sorry, but was there seriously a Felix and Hambrick comparison? Dear Lord.. Hambrick was used to spell Emmitt Smith and had over 5 yards a carry... Felix in 2 years is averaging 8.9 yards per carry. Guess how many catches Felix Jones has in 2 years? 2. Guess how many this year? 0.

I don't think it's all that farfetched to complain about how he's being used. I'm not like some of the others on here that whine just to whine.. but this is definitely something I'll whine about. Garrett needs to get his head out of his *** and utilize him more. Whether that means Austin takes over full-time duty as a kickoff returner, I really don't care.

If I don't see a designed screen to Felix in the next 2 games, I'm seriously going to snap.

Agree? Disagree? Is there any true excuse the guy gets 7 touches a game not counting kickoff returns? Or that he doesn't have a single catch this season?

As I said, I'm not just whining for the hell of it.. I think I have a pretty good reason to be upset about him being under-utilized.

I understand the first game, but he seemed to be running just fine against the Giants. I was surprised he was caught from behind, but he didn't seem to be hobbled by his injury whatsoever.

If that's the reason why he's not being used as much, that's fine.. but I'm not fine with him being used like that if he's healthy.

Marion Barber-RB-Cowboys Sep. 22 - 6:06 pm et

According to ESPN.com's Matt Mosley, Marion Barber (quadriceps) still hopes to play against the Panthers after receiving treatment Tuesday morning.

KXAS-TV had reported that Barber will miss 1-2 weeks, but they were only the ones reporting that timeline. ESPN's Ed Werder, who has ties to the Cowboys organization, calls Barber "day to day."

I don't think Felix Jones is a "change of pace back". The Titans wanted him over Chris Johnson. Chris Johnson is a feature back, and Felix Jones can fill that role, too. Titans scout C.O. Brocatto, one of the best scouts of all time, said that he thought Felix Jones could carry the load. That is who the Titans were going to draft. That is who they wanted first.

If the Cowboys want to go 9-7, they can stay on the current path with him.

When Felix Jones continues to only get 7 carries a game, I have a problem with it and so do others.

screw bspn. He'll miss a week or two I'm sure. We're covered and the washington signing is solid too as he can play special teams and JOe D. had him in Jville.........................I agree with the above poster on Felix being banged up: they might not list him on the injury report but the guy got ram-rodded a couple times the other night and got up VERY slowly. Choice is thicker and more rugged: I hope he replaces MB3 and Jones spells him: that's my desire and guess on the rotation.

That drive which started with three straight passes, with the third one picked off for a TD, was a chance to give it to Feilx Jones. The Cowboys were running at will, and pass, pass, pass... Unacceptable.

Instead of heaving a bomb (in triple coverage) to the # 4 WR (INT), how about giving the ball to Felix Jones or throwing it to him. Barber had just converted a third down.

fine but if you watch this run, although it doesn't show how long he takes to get up this is the play.

Nursing a strained quadriceps muscle in his left leg, Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber received treatment Tuesday morning and hopes to play against the Panthers on Monday, a league source told ESPN.com on Tuesday.

Barber

An MRI taken Monday morning confirmed the strain. Coach Wade Phillips said the Cowboys would have to "wait and see on that" when asked about Barber's status during Monday's news conference. The Cowboys will see how Barber's quad responds to treatment over the next few days and then make a decision.

Barber pulled up lame at the end of a 35-yard run in the fourth quarter of the Cowboys' 33-31 loss to the Giants on Sunday night.

Television station KXAS-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth cited anonymous sources in reporting on Tuesday that Barber will miss one to two weeks, but the Cowboys initially said the running back was "50-50." Now, it appears to be a waiting game.

Having one extra day certainly helps the running back's situation. But if Barber, who ran for 124 yards on 18 carries Sunday against the Giants, isn't ready to go, second-year player Tashard Choice will take on a larger role on the offense. When Barber and Felix Jones were out with injuries last December, Choice stepped in and made a very favorable impression.

Jones tied a career high with 96 rushing yards and scored a touchdown on seven carries Sunday.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones questioned Barber's toughness when he was injured last December, which seemed completely out of place for one of the most punishing runners in the league. Jones attempted to retract his comments later, but it still made for a bizarre situation.

To add depth, the Cowboys signed running back Chauncey Washington to their practice squad on Tuesday.

Washington played in six games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2008 as a rookie seventh-round draft pick out of USC. He had only four carries for 9 yards and one catch for 9 yards.

To make room on the practice squad for Washington, the Cowboys released fullback Julius Crosslin.

When Barber grabbed his thigh and dropped to the ground like he had been shot, it felt like a bad omen. We took the lead on the next play, but it didn't feel right. Too much time was on the clock on a night when the D was so focused on the run that they forgot about the pass. Who would've thought that a great rushing attack could score too quickly, leaving too much time? It was a strange game, indeed. I hope Barber comes back 100% and soon.

sucks because Marion Barber was looking very strong.

I'm sure Tashard will likely get the regular starting role though. Not a bad pair of backups to have at all. Both Tashard and Felix are equally capable of rushing for over 100 yards each in a game.

Seeing that it's a quad injury and can easily get worse if he's rushed, the smart play would be to let him sit 2 weeks and recover. A steady mix of Felix and Tashard should be enough to get the job done over the next two weeks. We need Marion at full health.

I dont know how to handle Felix from a Fantasy Football prospective

I was offered Andre Johnson for Colston and Felix Jones (I have Colston and Felix).

I would hate to dump Felix only to see him get a bigger part of the offense or for Marion's injury to linger throughout the season...
