Twitter: Barham had the third highest defensive PFF grade amongst rookies

What I like about Barham is he shows good instincts. That won't change when he faces starters in the regular season. Of course he will make rookie mistakes and hopefully hone those instincts with experience but instincts are critical for a LB. We haven't seen that in a LB on the Cowboys since Sean Lee. Will he win DYOY? I doubt it. That will go to a flashier position like Edge or CB, but if he plays like he did in the pre-season he has a chance to make it interesting.

Good for him, but I can't get too excited about it. It's preseason and the preseason lacks top quality players a majority of the time and vanilla schemes on both sides of the ball.

It's like saying this generic canned spaghetti sauce is the best when there are only generic canned spaghetti sauces on the table. In the end, the truth will be told when the regular season starts.

I bet you are so fun at parties... Let us have some hope while there is still hope to be had.

Going to be a lot of unwarranted disappointment on this board regarding this guy.
He will struggle for probably 2/3rds of the season. I wouldn't expect too much until next year. I want to see him stay healthy and get as many reps as possible.

Before anyone starts boasting, lets get halfway into the season.

Why do they hate him so much? If he was on any other team they'd have his gold jacket already. In all seriousness if he is just an above average player i'll be excited, that's how far the bar has fallen since Lee.

I’m really excited about this guy. I love how he plays mad. I got to temper expectations for the first couple games and not think he’s going to show up like he did in the preseason against the Cards. There’ll will be some growing pain but between Quinnen, Barham and Downs we are stout up the middle. I’m pumped
I must say ....it will be a great thing if teams are unable to run up the middle on us. It's been forever since we could reliably shut down a team's run game. The offensive and defensive interior are about the only position groups I'm confident will perform. Still have to see it, but I'd be shocked if teams were having their way with us.

I kind of doubt it. Barham will eventually ball and Caleb Down literally played 1series in preseason...

It's a little premature to crunch data on the rookies.

We might want to at least give them a 5-6 regular games to acclimate, then start the conversation, right?

Yeah but the alternative opinion on that is the fact that he doesn't have the defensive line in front of him He doesn't have other better players around him that draw attention from the offensive blocking schemes from the line and what not he will be more clean and more free to go do his assignment versus what he's got right now you see what I'm saying we could do this argument all day is stay tuned it's TBD we have an incomplete picture of any of our rookies right now because of this but I'd say that when they get on the schemed defense with all the frontline starters it'll be easier for them to do their job..
