Barr or Donald at 16? Which one and why...

Donald. I don't understand the hype on Barr. I know he's very fast but he also looks small. I think he's going to get manhandled by big NFL tackles. I believe he has bust written all over him, but that's only my opinion.

Donald. Relentless. Motor never stops. With Barr we have to pray and project what` he grows into hopefully. Barr has a tall ceiling but more risk. Donald is money in the bank.

Donald

I am not a fan of Barr

My preference at 16 would be

1. Donald
2. Trade down
3. If not available, jernigan or Martin

Donald and I love Barr. Barr is more of a risk, there's no denying that.

Or why not the other guy?

Despite the need at DE, I think Donald is the surer pick for what Marinelli wants to do. I also think Donald has more versatility to play every position on the line for the exception of the 1-Tech...but I'd bet he could do even that in a pinch.

Just curious - your sig mock draft has us taking Barr. Is that mock draft what you wanted or what you think the Cowboys will do?

Round 1 was what I thought the Cowboys will do. The rest really are dream picks. I figure without a trade down the Cowboys pick will be Barr.

Donald is a safer pick.

Barr has a really high upside and there are less options at WDE with both length and elite speed. DEs cost more in free agency. I think the franchise tag is about 3M higher for a DE than a DT. Barr is scheme versatile if that matters.

My choice would be the one that is available. No trading up!

The one small advantage I think Barr has is that the number of potential weakside 4-3 defensive ends is pretty small once you weed out the guys like Kony Ealy who simply do not have the top-flight speed off the edge to be dominant on the weakside IMO.

Where I think the potential list of #3 technique DT's is a wee bit larger.

Donald weighs in at 285 lbs and Barr at 255, funny thing is they are both too light to play in the Pros at their battle weights or at least "prototypically." It's like Donald should play DE at his size and weight and Barr should play OLB. Having said all that give me Donald, he can put on 10-15 lbs if it really mattered that much but Barr would have to gain 30 and still retain his speed, or at least in prototypical theory...

I'll take the money. If Donald is already scooped, then I'm looking for Lewan or somebody who slid to sixteen. Or trade down for Su' a filo or Bitonio or take Martin or Ford. That's the plan. Grabbing an extra 2nd or 2nd and 3rd to trade back 10 or 15 spots makes sense because starters are everywhere going into the 4th round.

Donald. Production, experience, talent, fit for our defense. He fits our team in every way and it is not a projection.

cheating, i know... but, right now, i doubt that either one of those guys will be there at 16. i also don't think it's worth trading up because we have too many needs, and i don't think we have any good partners in the 20s for a trade down.

Chiefs or the Egals may be looking for a WR. Packers could be trading up for Mosley

Donald is the better football player, and more ready to contribute day one.

Barr represents a position of bigger need, and the edge pass rushing crop in this draft is thinner than the DT ranks.

That being said, always go with the better player. I think the decision will be made for them - Donald won't get past the Bears.

If I had to pick between the two, I'd take Donald, if only because he at least has played the position he'd be playing in the pros. Barr may end up being a phenomenal player, but projecting his success is dicier, I think, because he'd be moving to a new position. There's never any guarantee in a situation like that, no matter how talented the player or how great his motivation.
