Bartell - Stock up or down?

Seems to me we're starting and keeping him in the game here to showcase him for a possible trade.

Do you think he's improved his value with this performance, or hurt it?

Actually, we started him and kept him in the game because we didn't want to play Romo or Johnson in a meaningless final preseason game... you might not have noticed, not many starters played at all...

But to answer your question, I thought he had a nice little game, even if it did seem to consist mostly of throwing the ball underneath... I was reasonably pleased...

Robison was getting ridiculous jumps. Almost Ware-like in that he was damn near offsides. Lots of people wanted that guy here.

Hook 'em, bay-bee... I'm glad to hear he looked good, even if it was against the Boys (since the game doesn't count)...

I liked Robison better than Crowder, to tell you the truth...

Whaaaa?

You really think there are GMs out there who would trade for Bartel?
Lucy that is so ridiculous!

Splain, Lucy.

And the Hurd injury took care of that.

What does Hurd's injury have to do with whether Bartel is worth keeping on the practice squad?

I am interested in the answer to that question myself.

I could be wrong but I don't understand why some of you think Bartel played poorly. He was quantum leaps ahead of his last games. I thought he looked pretty good when he had time to make his reads. He was poised and completed a huge percentage of his passes. Some were a little off but they were catchable balls. He made good decisions as best as you can tell from TV. I was pretty impressed. He made his statement if not for Dallas then someone else.

George should make the team IMO. I think T Smith needs to be on the roster or a very, very tough cut.

Olgesby showed up.

I'm finally fed up with Carp. He's not bad. He's just not good enough for a number one.

Bowen looked good but he generally does when he's in.

Scandrick needs to get on the field.

Amendola deserves a spot on the team unless it knocks George, Oglesby and maybe T Smith off the team.

I didn't get enough of a look at Walden. Brown is mostly lost. Jenkins is not there yet. Berger is worth keeping around. Proctor is servicable as a backup C until we find a better one. I didn't look at the Ts enough.

Choice should have earned some carries. They need to find a way to get him 5-10 carries a game at least. All three compliement each other.

Lattimore is good enough but I don't see how they can keep him. I'd try awfully hard but hopefully he can make it to the PS as the number four.

Hannah should be on the 53 but I'm not sure they will carry 4 TEs. He should be a very tough cut.

George, Choice, Lattimore, Hannah, Amendola, Oglesby, T Smith, Scandrick, and Bowen are NFL players. There are likely others as well.

Bartell has some Machanics issues. He is not ready to be a Backup even right now. He has leftwitch type windup sometimes seems like. He needs to work on that if he sticks around.

On Decision side, he might be ok for now, but needs more time there too obviously.

Yea, his mechanics are all jacked up. I really dont see him being NFL caliber until he fixes his mechanics, noway he makes 53 in Dallas.

I would bring him back to the practice squad for another year of coaching. Problem is that sometimes guys just suck even when their mechanics are corrected, i.e. Henson.

Thinks the possible 3rd QB roster spot will go to a WR who would not otherwise have made the roster.

Bartel was actually a lot better than I expected him to be tonight. He didn't look good in TC. He still throws high and tends to look at his receivers, but a lot of that is just getting comfortable with where he's going to go with the ball. He showed some smarts on the busted handoff, and made several good checkdowns tonight. For a big arm, he sure doesn't have much touch on the longball.

I agree with almost all of this. I don't think T Smith helped himself enough tonight, and I think Hannah's back to the PS.

Choice doesn't get as much attention as he deserves for as good a player as he's been this preseason. He's a really good all-around back.

Bartel wasn't going to make the roster. He was playing for a spot on the practice squad, if anything. And Hurd's injury shouldn't affect that -- unless it HELPS Bartel's chances because a wide receiver who might have been on the practice squad could be kept on the roster for now.

I think Bartell did a pretty good job last night. I hope we can keep him as our 3rd QB I think it is worth giving him more developmental time

With 3 wide receivers out - there will be no #3 QB and may cost us dearly at CB.

How so?

Terrence Newman
Anthony Henry
Adam Jones
Michael Jenkins
Orlando Scandrick

All look like they will be on the team. How many CBs did you expect Dallas to keep? Dallas may cut a quality corner and that is because they are stacked at the position. Losing one won't cost them dearly. They are in a good position this year.

I dont think anybody would trade for him, nor do I think he showed enough to keep him as our #3 QB

They'll either go with 2 QB's again (which I think will most likely happen with all the injuries elsewhere) and maybe sign somebody later, or maybe they keep Bartel on the PS

Bartel looked better than I expected (my expectations were low).

But no reason to think he's more than a JAG 3rd QB.

I don't know if Robison was getting great jumps. The first play Free for some reason initially looked inside, which gave Robison a free run at Bartel. The next play Robison was off sides, but it was not called.

I wouldn't argue too much about Hannah. He might get thru waivers. Depends. Alson depends on if we keep 4 TEs esp with the state of affairs of our WRs. A lot depends on picking up a veteran WR. I think Hannah is a year away from being a quality backup.

Smith's in the same boat. I was more impressed with him than George. George should be the 4th pass rusher IMO. But Smith's overall play was impressive. He has range. He's good in coverage. He has a nose for the ball and he doesn't get tied up with blockers like a certain LB does. His problem is numbers. He probably gets to the PS.

I particularly agree with your remarks about Choice. He's much better than the press and remarks he gets. I think he needs to get some carries and I see him taking them from Barber like JJ did with Jones being used as a complimentary back.

They won't cut Oglesby. Period. He's too valuable and he's a better player than Jenkins. We'll keep six IMO.

Speaking of DBs I was particularly disappointed in Brown. I thought he was further along. He probably isn't in trouble but.... Don't know how strong his STs play is. Just disappointed.

Robison is a str8 up player. I'd say Bartel's stock is up but his arm strength remains questionable.
