Baylor fires coach Art Briles after 8 seasons

I think they were testing the waters with the rumor being leaked about Starr getting the axe to see if they could keep Briles. I think they heard that too many people thought that Briles should be canned as well and acted. Of course that is all speculation on my part but I think it is feasible.

Should have axed Starr as well. He'll keep his salary and benefits which is ridiculous.
 
Wow. Well, can't say I blame them. Feel bad for the players.
 
Can anybody please give a rundown of what happened here as far as the sexual assaults go? I haven't really been paying attention and I can't trust the media to accurately state the facts. Not for or against Baylor, just curious to see what the actual facts are.

Knowing higher ed and how president's get treated, that's a firing. Except it is a firing that lets him collect salary for several additional years. Pretty much, he gets to keep the money but doesn't have to do any work.
 
Unbelievable. These are adults playing for him, they made their own decisions. They should be the ones punished. Not an icon like Briles.

Its about the brand.... all about the brand. Jettisoning Briles allows Baylor to start repairing its image faster. If Briles knew what was going on and did nothing, I've got no sympathy for him whatsoever.
 
Briles, Starr, and everyone involed at the Waco PD should be placed on the sexual predator list for their roles in all this. They all basically condoned and encouraged these actions to continue by protecting the guilty. They all should spend time in prison.

Also, Brilies and Starr should be fined every single penny they earned at Baylor.

In those instances, football coaches or staff met directly with a complainant and/or a parent of a complainant and did not report the misconduct. As a result, no action was taken to support complainants, fairly and impartially evaluate the conduct under Title IX, address identified cultural concerns within the football program, or protect campus safety once aware of a potential pattern of sexual violence by multiple football players."

Briles is an adult. He made his own decisions about not punishing these players or reporting them to the proper authorities.

It isn't an "or" situation. It is an "and" one. The players and Briles and Starr and several others involved should all be punished.
 
It's an embarrassment that Baylor is keeping Starr on at all. They and all Baylor alum should be ashamed of their school for this.

EDIT: Also, how quickly they climb and how quickly they fall when they break the rules to get an competitive advantage.

I don't agree.

As a coach, Briles has accountability with regards to having a team that does not constantly break the law, especially in heinous crimes like sexual assault/rape.

As the timeline shows, Briles consistently showed bad judgment in recruiting players who later committed sexual assault crimes and kept them on the team after numerous accusations. He also sought out transfers who had a prior history with assault crimes. And finally, he was personally told of these crimes and did not report these crimes to the proper authorities.

It was pretty clear that Briles was more interested in winning football games at any cost and everything else was a distant second. He's not the only one to blame here. I can't believe they kept Kenneth Starr on as a Chancellor as the school is even more guilty of trying to keep a lid on these crimes. But Briles deserved to be fired.

You're kidding right? Covering up a crime is obstructing justice which in itself is a crime. Briles and Starr covering up the crime allowed more crimes to be committed by the same freaking perpetrators! Briles and Starr should NEVER be allowed to work in an education environment ever again. They should spend time in the same cell as the people they covered up.
