I stated yesterday I dont think the overall bowl records by conference are much of an indicator of how much better or worse one conference is than another. The reason is because in the bowls, especially the lesser one's some teams clearly put forth poor efforts in alot of cases because they are dissatisfied with where they went, and some teams dont handle the layoff well.

I was listening to Cowturd today though and he brought up the records in JUST the BCS games, and I do think that might be an indicator because these are the better bowls, with the better teams and usually (though not always) those teams put forth quality efforts.

The results are undeniable. The SEC is BY FAR the best conference in BCS games, with a record of 14-5. The SEC is also undefeated in national Chamopionship games, now 6-0.

Where do some of the others rank? The ACC is dead last at 2-10. The Pac 10 is 2nd at 9-5. The Big 10 is in the middle at 10-11. Where does the Big 12 rank? Next to last, at 7-10. The Big 12 also ranks last in Championship Game winning %, with a record of 2-5.

I do think this is rather telling.

The SEC, over the course of the BCS has probably been the best conference but that doesn't mean they are best every year. This is is unfortunate for the Big12 and Texas but it is what it is. As for the Big12 and where they rank, well, the SEC is first in Championships but the Big12 IS the ONLY other conference with more then one championship. If that's the test mark, then I'd have to say that you can make an arguement that the Big12 is second. I guess it depends on what criteria you measure by.

Thats not entirely true, it doesnt factor in USC splitting the National Title a few years ago, so they tachnically have two by themselves. It wasnt the BCS title, but they were #1

I hae the whole thing to be honest though, because too many times they have not put the two best teams into the title game.

Its way past time for a playoff.

There's no question that the SEC plays the best football in the country, and has for a long time now.

Not according to some of the homers of two particular teams in CZ.

I dont think there's any question about it at all, but thats one of the reasons I posted further proof.

To me, the fact they put far more players into the NFL is pretty much enough, but you still see some people blindly argue the point.

I don't know that they were the best this year. I mean, it's going to sound like soure grapes but if Texas wins last night, I think you can definately make a case that the Big12 was best last year. They didn't so I think it's OK to say SEC again but I really don't think that the SEC was anything very special this last year.

MWC guys! They were 4-1 this season and could have been unbeaten if not for TCUs QB debacle.

:D

I think the layoff really hurt TCU. I thought they were better than what they showed vs Boise St.

Yep, I watched them all year and was very impressed with them. I honestly thought they would beat Boise but they didn't.

Yeah, they seemed a bit flat for some reason. BSU outplayed them....but Boise is no pushover themselves.

No they're definitely not, and they have a decent chance to win the title next yr. They basically have everyone coming back and they'll probably start out in the top 5 or 6.

I am a Big 12 fan but the SEC is the best conference but I don't think it has the best talent.

David, you forgot to mention the most important argument Colin Cowherd made when saying that he felt the Conference is better.

He said that the SEC pays its coaches a lot more money. It is similar to Harvard paying more to its professor then a Junior College, so Harvard is going to have the best teachings and therefore get the most out of their students.

I just wish ALL of the Texas players would just stay in Texas.

Also, I disagree with your thoughts on Bowl Games.

I believe those teams do play hard as there is a lot of money at stake and those players know that NFL Scouts are watching that game or probably will to get tape on you.

What conference does then? If the SEC puts more people in the NFL year after year and has for quite some time, how can one dispute the talent difference?

I either started listening before or after he said that. Did he have proof of this?

For some players yeah, but you forget alot of those players arnt going right into the draft, or if their eligibility is up they might not have an NFL future.

I dont think there's much doubt some teams do have the "letdown" factor when it comes to some of these bowl games.

As for the system itself, its broken beyond belief IMO. The matchups are mostly boring/uncompelling and the teams have too much time between games. There's still been too many seasons where they didnt get it right when matching up a supposed 1 vs 2.

No, he just stated that they paid more and that football was more of a big deal for the South then other parts of the Country.

He's probably right, but there are some very well paid coaches in the other conferences too. For instance they noted last night that Mack Brown makes more money (considerably) than Nick Saban.

He said that it's not specific to a school. He said that it's all through the SEC. Now, I don't know if this is true or not but according to Cow, somebody I put zero faith in, the SEC pays more down the line then other confrences do. On the other hand, much of what he was saying this morning was full of holes. He went on and on about the SEC and how nobody had a chance.

I wouldnt doubt that the SEC was tops in coaches (and even assistants) pay, I just wondered if he offered details. I wonder how close other conferences are to them.

Could not tell you David, he offered no credible evidence what so ever that his statement was factual. He just said it as if it were a given.

Last I saw the SEC HC's averaged 2.6 mill (Vandy was excluded so that average is probably slightly lower) and next up was the Big 12 at 2.1. This was in 2009 but I'm sure if it included this season's salaries or not.

Google College football coaching salaries and you should find it.
