Be prepared for our only signings to be Carr, Church, McClain, Butler

I believe that we only sign one of Carr/Claiborne and Church/Wilcox, and we resign Terrell McClain and Brice Butler on the cheap. That effectively plugs holes we have in secondary, at 1-tech (where Thornton underwhelmed), and #2 WR going into the draft. Everyone else is a goner, and we will not bring in outside free agents. Stephen has said as much and I believe him. Talk on this site about signing a pass rusher is just talk; no good ones are available and I think our FO believes that they can go into the draft with D Law, Mayowa, T Crawford, and Irving as their DE group. Good CB's like Bouye, Trumaine Johnson, Gilmore are going to cost too much. So, with top 3 picks, we pick some combination of DE, CB, WR. We will need a backup QB, but likely will wait until after the draft to sign McCown, Sanchez, or Kellen Moore. If you are looking for free agent fixes, prepared to be disappointed, again....

I think the Cowboys have 18 FA's. They have 7 draft picks, you just signed 4 players. Still need 7 more to make a 53 man roster. I don't think those last 7 will come from the PS or UDFA, so they have to sign a few more FA's.

If you were looking for free agent fixes you haven't been keeping track of the way the Dallas Cowboys do business. We dropping the big FA signing exercise years ago.

I think we fill in with street free agent types, or very cheap deals for guys like Jack Crawford in April after the draft. I just don't see this team spending money on other free agents before the draft. Maybe a backup QB like McCown or Sanchez, but I don't think we are going to be in any rush there either.

Gotcha. I agree, we are not spending big, so I think a few more of our 18 will be back on the team.

Several of those would be very disappointing. Especially Brice Butler.

Just remind yourselves that anyone that is re-signed is effectively being handed a roster spot with very little to no competition.

McCown will be signed.................why do people think that not being big players in free agency is a bad thing? It's just the opposite.....generally, it's the bottom tier teams that are constant players....the Skins, the eagles, etc....churning 30% of your roster with new free agents every year is like trying to build a house from the roof down.

Now will come the "but the Giants had luck" with free agents.....did they really? They got a one and done wild card birth for a mere $200.M

Money is much better spent hiring good scouts and talent evaluators and go the draft route...not to mention cheaper.

I have no issue with Butler being back if he's cheap. I mean he's a 4th WR type so it's not like they'd be signing him to be a #1.

They also have practice squad guys like Rico Gathers and Jam.Flowers who could be promoted for very cheap.
I think we will resign a couple more guys and a couple low priced FA but I don't see any big FA signings.

Our track record is better when we sit out FA honestly. We did last year then went and won 13 games with a young, mostly home grown roster.

The first is defensive tackle Terrell McClain.

The next priority should be cornerback Brandon Carr.

The final guy that should return is Carr’s defensive backfield mate, safety Barry Church.

If anyone else was on the roster this past season...they better just want to remain a Cowboy when contract is talked.

I'm wary of McClain. Last thing we need is to re-sign him to a bigger deal and he finds himself on the injury list/IR again.

Liked what I saw last year, but he did not have lady luck on his side when it came to injuries for most of his time here

So he listed the game stats for Tate, Green and Evans and then gives all the credit to Carr for shutting them down?

Wut?

...if Dallas decides to draft a defensive end with their first round pick, which seems to be where most mocks send them. Drafting a defensive end makes sense because:
  • DeMarcus Lawrence is on the last year of his contract, and his health and suspension issues, and lack of production in 2016 raise questions as to whether Dallas will seek to extend him beyond this season.
  • Tyrone Crawford has a contract that will keep Dallas from cutting him soon, but he doesn’t seem to be the long-term answer.
  • Randy Gregory can’t be counted on to ever play again.
  • Charles Tapper was sidelined by back issues last year and is largely unknown.

With uncertainty down the road, Dallas needs to keep adding linemen in search of ones who can stick. This is best done through the draft...

The order of priorities right this second, are cornerback/safety/defensive linemen.
