Several of those would be very disappointing. Especially Brice Butler.
Just remind yourselves that anyone that is re-signed is effectively being handed a roster spot with very little to no competition.
I don't know. Butler is basically TW. I'd sign him just because he's cheap. (I'm drafting a guy though)
If you were looking for free agent fixes you haven't been keeping track of the way the Dallas Cowboys do business. We dropping the big FA signing exercise years ago.
How many teams win by signing absolutely no one?
FA is a necessary evil until teams get 6 year rookie deals with escalator clauses.
It's also a tool, a tool in which you can improve. Avoiding it like the plague, as well as anyone close to the age of 30 isn't some street wise cap management, it's nonsensical.
You have assets and capital available to improve at a list of positions, those assets don't gain interest in any special form if they're unused.
There is a huge middle ground between signing risky idiots who do cocaine and throw women on piles of guns, and Vernon who got a Brinks truck.
Just letting the funds gather and actually lose value and purchasing power isn't smart, it just continues to show a typical problem in Dallas. The vast overestimation and prideful ignorance in properly evaluating "their guys".
Rod and the defensive coaches should be given raises because the FO has been horrendous at evaluating the defense. And it's the Jones' putting in the picks.
You can't just ignore and completely whiff on evaluating defensive talent for years and then just expect to ignore FA. We don't have the luxury. Missing on picks AND ignoring FA is exactly how we get the same defense we've had for years, a mediocre unit devoid of talent that's really even overachieving but can't stop a top QB.
I think we'll improve on defense because I like the younger guys, but without any FAs I think most people that follow the team like we do are going to know in the back of their minds that we're probably going to lose to Rodgers again in the playoffs.
