Demarcus Ware
DE, Troy State
War Room analysis
Strengths: Has great instincts with excellent top-end speed and agility. Shows great initial burst. Makes tackles all over the field. Speed makes him adept in pursuit. Excels at rushing the passer and wrap-up tackling.

Weaknesses: Falls well short of the ideal NFL size. Sometimes has been manhandled in college, which doesn’t bode well for ability to disengage from NFL blockers. Needs to play more under control.

Bottom line: Ware projects as only a situational end in the NFL and may be better suited for outside linebacker. He is raw and needs work, but his athleticism should ensure him an early-Day 2 selection.

Dan Pompei analysis
A speed rusher who can really move. Has great quickness off the edge. Is a smooth athlete who can get around the corner. Has natural strength but needs to improve his play at the point of attack. Would be an ideal 3-4 outside linebacker.

We don't run a 3-4, Nors.

Why Drafting Suggs made no sense at #5 two years ago. They are openly talking about and looking at a 3-4 move for 2005. Undersized DE's are a hot commodity this draft.

We don't run the 3-4 right now, but what makes you think we won't switch as we get players that fit the 3-4? The big arguement that is thrown in Nors face is we don't have the personnel.....well, we apparently don't have the personnel to run the 4-3 either, or atleast the scheme that Zimm runs. Just becuase we run a 4-3 this year doesn't mean we won't switch.

Gotta say that Nors is right here. There has been talk of a 3-4 though the likelihood of it being full-time or situational is still in question.

The guy in quetion has great measurables (Ware, not Nors).

We have two #1's and a #2. Time to buy new groceries on defense.

Next year will hopefully be a totally different defense and scheme. Like you said, we have the money, time for BP to get what ever groceries he needs to cook up a Super Bowl.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, it would take too many personell changes to switch to a 3-4 next season. I can see us slowly doing it, but not all in one year.

If it means getting rid of Zimmer then I'm all for it. We need bigger LBs (with talent. Just because a LB is big doesn't mean he'll flourish in the 3-4). We also need a fat, meat eating, booger faced Nose Guard. If Shawn Rogers makes it to FA I can see him being a good NG, plus he could play the regular DT position if we run some 4-3 or in our nickel/dime packages.

I guess Ellis might be able to pass as a 3-4 DE. He'd need to add about 10lbs. THat's doable. Maybe Glover can play DE in a 3-4. That one would be risky. Coleman can play DE in a 3-4. That's 3 DEs and 1 DT. We're still short 1 DT and 1 DE.

LB: Dat MIGHT be able to handle playing in a 3-4. Ogbogu can be a backup in a 3-4, but I sure as hell don't want him starting. Thornton is just learning the position, you really want him starting for you at a position he's never played and in a defensive front he's never played in? Don't think so. Brady James has the size to play in a 3-4, but he may end up being no better then Al Singleton for all we know. So we have two LBs that MIGHT be able to start in a 3-4. If we can get two starting Quality LBs (for a 3-4) and a starting quality NG, plus get rid of Zimmer, then we might be able to pull it off.

That's a lot of ifs though. Sorry, but I don't see it happening.

We need to upgrade retool 5-6 positions either way. I prefer a defense that can play both formations anyway.

We need to draft two impact starters Round 1 and we should be able to mine an impact starter in Round 2 (FS?)

We have serious jack going into FA also. Its doable either way.
We have to stop accepting failure - thats what we have there.

I like the idea of being able to play both formations.... has anyone been able to do it successfully?

Belichecks Pate are in and out of 4-3, 3-4 past 4 years.

I was pro Merriman over Ware - but Ware was a beast at Senior Bowl....

What will #20 bring?

Probably wasn't necessary to bring this thread back from the dead. Four months?!

why not - Spears at #20!

Its interesting to see what we thought on Ware 4 months ago...

Ware, Spears, Burnett

It doesn't get any bigger than that. Hats off to Ireland and Parcells. Great first day. Now go lock lacewell and jj out of the war room.
