Bears take step toward dumping Mitch Trubisky

All signs are pointing toward Mitch Trubisky’s eventual exit from Chicago.

The Bears on Saturday declined the fifth-year option on their embattled quarterback, NFL Network reported, making Trubisky a free agent after the season.

The moves comes a month after Bears general manager Ryan Pace announced there would be an open quarterback competition, in wake of the team trading for Nick Foles from the Jaguars.

Trubisky is in the middle of a four-year, $29 million pick after he was taken with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, but it is apparent the Bears no longer are committed to him long-term.

Trubisky didn't even have a name that could be successful. It's not like Manning, Rodgers, Staubach, Bradshaw, Montana, Brady, it's Trubisky! That's not going anywhere. Belichick better be aware of this too. His QB Stidham? Not a HOF name.

On paper because of Super Bowl XX, yes.

But Cutler is probably their best QB since Luckman, if you want to look at the stats.

I agree with this too. Cutler, at least IMO, was their best quarterback since then. In his prime he was definitely better than McMahon.

No bigger example of what a crapshoot drafting a QB is than Mitch Trubisky who was the second overall pick in 2017, taken 8 picks ahead of Patrick Mahomes.

You have to factor in team circumstances as well. Think about it. What if it was reversed and Mitch went to the Chiefs with Andy Reid coaching him and Patrick went to the Bears with John Fox. Granted Mahomes is much more talented then Mitch as we all can see now, but would we be thinking of Mahomes as the best QB in the league playing with the Bears? Remember Mahomes was very raw coming out of Tech. Would John Fox or Nagy’s coaching staff design an offense to exploit Mahomes talents? How would we look at Mitch with Reid in his ear? Now I doubt the Chiefs would have won a SB with Mitch under center, but perhaps Reid would have been able to tap into Mitch’s talents and bring them to light like he has done with every QB he has ever had. Maybe we think of Mitch being the value pick and Mahomes being the bust. Who knows.

In my opinion if a QB “has it” they have it. No matter what team drafts them they’ll eventually win and win big. If they have that “it” factor it’s going to show up. I’ve heard the argument before that if this QB played for another team and that QB played for another would their careers have been different. Put Patrick Mahomes on any team and he would win. It might take a little longer with a real bad team but eventually he would turn them around. Most of the real great QBs started off on real bad teams and turned them around within 2 to 3 years. Mitch Trubisky simply doesn’t have it.
