I disagree. Jason Witten is amazing, but his hands aren't that great. He does, however, seem to catch the ones we need the most.
Chain mover. He just makes plays.
Hasn't really proven out to be the case in the last couple of season for the Cowboys.
San Franciso and Seattle were 31st and 32nd in pass attempts last year. Those two teams meet in the NFC championship game and, as we all know, Seattle won the Super Bowl in 2013.
I can't say I agree with this line of thought.
We don't have the defenses those teams have because our money is tied into our passing game, unlike theirs.
Perhaps that was a mistake. Time will tell.
I read ya but half the reason he's got such a high catch rate is he runs short underneath routes for a living.
Beasley - 85.7% catch rate
It's not necessarily a mistake, but you can't win by overspending in an area (either in cap money or draft picks) and not utilizing that strength.
I don't think that's necessarily what's happening with this team. I mean, we are almost 50/50 on offense. That's not ignoring the passing game. That's using balanced offense IMO.
There is no way Beasley has better hands than Dez.
Why, because one is a first rounder and the other is a short undrafted player?
Because Beasley doesn't face double coverage like Dez and most of his catches are in the open field.
And yet, Dez has dropped some VERY catchable balls in the past. I'm not about to say Dez has the best hands in the league. He's the classic "Catches contested balls, drops open field passes".
And when the hell has Dez had to catch passes in double coverage? I'd like examples of this. He's a great player, but he's not Calvin Johnson. His great catches come against when a single corner has great cover on him and he still makes the catch. He certainly didn't look like Calvin Johnson when he was double covered in the 49ers game which led to an INT.
That's assuming that 50/50 represents a proper balance. This is a passing league, and a team that was set up to pass the ball.
If we want to be a running football team, we probably shouldn't be re-signing Dez Bryant, we probably shouldn't have drafted yet another tight end in the 2nd round, we probably shouldn't have signed Tony Romo to that contract.
That being said, we did all of those things, and it's only a mistake if you decide to change the identity of the team towards imbalanced running.
The right mix would probably be closer to 55-45 pass-run.
Well, if we are running the ball and winning, then who cares what the rest of the league is doing? Pass because that's what everybody else is doing is not the smart move. In the end, 31 teams go home losers. just because everybody else thinks that's the way to win does not make it the way for us.
It isn't going to work against better teams, not consistently.
