I know he operates in the slot and catches a lot of quick screens and slants but why not send him deep on the seam route or post route out of the slot and catch them by surprise? I realize that straight line speed is not his asset, more quickness, but Linehan needs to send him deep occasionally and see what happens...my 2 pennies....

Good point.

Cole could get deep...then dish some sauce to get open.

Due to his height vertical separation is harder. With a rookie qb the touch needed is not there not to mention he is more quick and fast. Vertical routes neutralize any separation he gets because of quickness like slants, ins, outs and stops

We need a big body that is a threat down the seams.

I really want a TE for this offense that is more athletic and can stretch the field out.

I feel like it would help the entire offense having a guy that can set the edge in the run game and get up the seam in the pass game.

Haven't they done this?

Didn't Bease get a long ball in the seam and was inches short of a TD?

Because a 5'8" receiver has a small catch radius that only get magnified exponentially the further he gets downfield. It requires a much more precise pass to complete a deep throw to a small receiver versus a larger target. Speed has little to do with it.

They have sent him deep a few times and he has a long catch or two this season.

In general his size becomes a bigger limitation on deep routes.

This makes sense but the OP makes a valid point. It's not rare to have seen Welker/Edelman run the correct type of deep routes in NE. Brady of course is a master. I could see this coming from bunch/rub/pick situations to take advantage of Beas' quickness.

great point. which makes perfect sense to use this as a curve ball in the gameplan (they used beasly to throw a pass in one game remember?). they would never see it coming and if worked on enough in practice they could decrease error in game.
