I don't know about underrated, but he's certainly under utilized. Up until late last year, even when he was open (which was pretty often), Romo wasn't looking his way.

What I'm saying there is that Beasley, when paired with a potent running game, Dez, Witt, and Williams... puts additional stress on the defense, probably more than most would think.

Love Beasley. He is an underrated (IMO) part of the potent Dallas offense. His change of direction, lateral movement, and start/stop speed makes him a very difficult player to cover. Great athleticism, hands, and smarts too.

An outstanding slot receiver in general.

And, for being 5-8, the guy is pretty salty. He doesn't take **** from anyone.

It is his ability to start/stop on a dime and to change direction in a fraction of a second that makes him so difficult to stop.

I think Romo will start to look for him more and more this season. And when defenses adjust to slow Beasley down, then Williams and Witten are going to have a lot of opportunities.

But a 6'2" QB looking over 6'6" line trying to hit a 5'8" WR over the middle can be tricky to say the least.
Plus, if he's going over the middle then Witten is not.

It's not going to work every single time but Romo is one of the best at moving around the pocket. Defenses are looking to cover Witten and Dez while getting to Romo. It's just one more weapon that is going to demoralize defenses.

I think if the running game proves not to be as effective that Beasley's role will be increased as Dallas uses the slats more often on 1st down to keep us in good down and distance situations.

The key is to keep him in the same role where he has been very good. Some teams might try to expand his role (routes), but that Is a bad idea, IMO. The Cowboy actually gave him some of the TWilliams routes in the preseason and it was not good and included an INT, IIRC. It's not his fault, but the radius for the QB to hit a guy his size on deeper routes is just too small unless it's a guy like Desean Jackson that can get big separation with his deep speed.

Beasley's primary competition for playing time is oddly, Escobar. If they use the package with Escobar, then Beasley is likely not on the field and vise versa. I would like to see more from Escobar but I don't want to see less from Beasley. Every year I expect Witten to quit playing 100% of the snaps, but it never happens. I guess maybe they could get both Escobar and Beasley on the field in those empty backfield set they like to run which is normally 1 TE and 4 WRs, but could be 2 TEs and 3 WRs.

I don't disagree with any of that.

I do hope that they give Witten a little more rest (probably on early downs) and try to work in Escobar (and maybe Swaim) more. It would be best for Witten, the young guys, and the team IMO.

Beasley is going to get a lot of snaps one way or the other. I think they were just experimenting in the off season putting Beasley outside because Dez wasn't there and they had the chance to see him practice there.

I'd be really surprised if they every really played him there without a lot of injuries.
