I'm reading the book "War Room" by Michael Holley. It chronicles the relationship between Belichick, Scott Pioi, and Thomas Dimitroff from Cleveland through New England to their current positions. Anyway, they quote Belichick as Dallas selects Tyron Smith in 2011 - "I think you will have a hard time pointing to 3 or 4 guys that are better players than he is."

Not that we didn't know that based on his rookie season, but pretty high praise from a great coach nonetheless.

Impossible. I've heard it from great authorities on this forum that our scouting department once again blew it and should have taken JJ Watt.

I just hope he can make the switch to the left side. Sky's the limit for that kid.

I'll admit I was a bit skeptical of all the pre-draft hype, I thought he had a lot to polish up about his game even if he was physically gifted. Turns out his game was already pretty darn good. Glad he's been able to keep the weight on too, although I wasn't particularly concerned about that.

I agree it must be a misprint Dallas is in capable of bringing in talent according to our experts here. :laugh2:

Man it seems like every thread now days turns into a call out thread instead of talking about the team or players. Sorry, I know it's not only you both sides of the homer/ realists do it. And if I have done it in the past a apologize to whoever it was but it is just getting old.

Thank you!

There are optimists, pessimists, and realists. Some will argue that pessimism is closer to realism, but they are NOT the same, and never have been. That is why I call these guys "self appointed realists." They aren't. They accept myths, especially if they are negative towards the team or fans.

They are no more realists than they are doughnuts.

I was gonna start a thread asking when was the last time we had a rookie this good.

Maybe Emmitt. Maybe longer. I don't know. The guy is the offensive equivalent to DeMarcus Ware.

Could we make the case that, when factoring in his age, this was the most impressive rookie campaign we've ever had?

If not, it's got to be right up there. 20 years old, for crying out loud.

I just shake my head when the pessimist around here call themselfs realist. :laugh2:

I would say you ansewered your own question when you said how long since we had a rookie this good. Ware. I would also think a case could be made for Lee

Either way, it would be nice if guys could actually talk about the topic at hand. Not every thread requires a snarky response.

Nice find, garrett316. While Belichek may throw verbal bouquets towards opponents before game day, these type of non-public thoughts on players tend to make me take notice.

I did not miss the point at all. I am not the least bit surprised that you voiced that opinion in reply to me instead of the other side.

I simply will not get involved in debates in threads any more. I've said my peace and you can have the last word on that subject. Preach it, teach it, and believe it. The pulpit is yours.

Your right.

I am just happy that we have one position on the OLine that seems to be nailed down by someone that is young and wants to work. It does not matter which side he plays on, Left or Right. As long as he plays at a very high level... I am hoping we get a Center in the Tyron mold in the coming draft. We need an anchor in the middle.

Yep.. It's crazy how well he did for a 20 year old.

A lot of people on here thought he wasn't a day 1 starter too.

Im glad we have an amazing athlete like that playing the edge for us.

I would love to put Decastro on the same Oline as him.

Witten was 20 when he was drafted. TE's not a sexy pic, but he came out on fire. And, of course, Ware...is well, Ware.

Unless you're only evaluating 1st round picks?

There is one key difference between them and doughnuts... I like doughnuts.
