Bench: Barber and Folk

Yes because he's money on short yardage and goal line situations which increases these stats tremendously. He made the Pro Bowl playing this role so why not get him back where he belongs?

Barber is averaging 4.67 YPC on runs between the 20s.

On runs of 1st and 6+, he's averaging 5.0 YPC.

On runs of 2nd and 6+, he's averaging 4.7 YPC.

On runs of 3rd and 6+, he's averaging 4.5 YPC.

We don't run on 3rd and 6+. Where are you getting these stats? Also what are the other backs averaging between the 20's?

This coaching staff isn't going to bench or cut anyone. Hell, Barber had to wait until the Playoff game in 2007 to unseat Julius "Pile Magnet" Jones as the starter. Do you all realize that was less than 2 years ago? :(

Man signing Hamlin, Barber and Flozell to long-term contracts are really looking like bad business decisions right now. Newman is getting close to being put on that list as well.

That's probably my biggest gripe with Wade. That, and the fact I just don't think he's a good psychological guy. I mean in today's presser after the game, he was arguing with a reporter that a December swoon can be OK because past teams have made Super Bowls following bad Decembers. That's fine and dandy, but in my opinion it's classic Wade -- overlooking the finer details while looking straight to the finish line way too early. You can almost envision Wade sitting in his office, counting up the ways we can make the playoffs with a 1-3 December. You don't hear the historically great coaches portray such a weak-minded persona publicly.

Anyway, back to the original point: Yeah, Wade's not good IMO at handling mid-season lineup changes. One thing I loved about Parcells was the constant tinkering of the bottom of the roster. Larry Brown was talking on the radio today how Parcells or Jimmy would have been trying out kickers all week, just to keep Folk on edge. Instead, Wade essentially waves off his misses.

I don't hate the overall job Wade has done here, and do think he still has an outside chance of sticking. But I loathe his overall approach as a man in charge.

I mean at least get Buehler to practice kicking in front of him or something, geez...:banghead:

The quote that haunts me from Parcells' "retirement" is Jerry's constant referencing to how everyone was so miserable with Parcells around and how he kept everyone on edge. In my opinion, that's a good thing, particularly in the sporting realm. Think things are relaxed and cozy with Belichick or Popovich?

But Jerry wants a country club feel, and that's what we have. Not surprisingly, we're a mentally weak team that folds down the stretch.

Many scoff at Aikman's analysis because he's oft-times critical, but it is quite damning that a QB who won three Super Bowls here has been so outwardly critical of how Jerry operates some things. Heck, he should know having been here for the start of these December collapses.

We're not as bad as what's going on in Washington, but I don't think the culture Wade creates exhudes championships.

Jerry will get pissed when we miss the playoffs (Or go 1 and done) and fire everybody...

We have ran on 3rd and 6+, but only a couple of times, all the stats are on ESPN.com. You don't have to look at the other RB's stats because I was simply dispelling the notion that Barber isn't effective outside of short yardage and goal line situations. His success rate and DVOA are so high because he is an effective RB in every situation. You're right about Barber being great in short yardage though, seeing as how he has the highest % of runs for a first down of any RB with more than 75 carries. Of course, none of the stats take into account the fact that he's our best RB for pass protection.

But yeah, let's bench him despite the fact that he's been very productive and is an important part of the offense. That'd be great for the team.

Stats mean doo doo when the end result is a loss. See the #1 offense from just a few weeks ago or the #2 defense from just last week. For every big run you get from Barber there are 15-20 (30-40??) piles of dust....

Exactly how many big runs does Barber break? Wasn't that one of your complaints, that he's "too damn slow"? The idea that Barber's big runs are over-inflating his YPC and aren't indicative of true production is just silly.

That's not what I said, try again...

That's exactly what you said. You said Barber was too slow to be a feature back and you said that for every long run Barber has, he has between 15-40 "piles of dust" carries. The idea that stats don't matter when they're in a loss is ridiculous. If that were true, no one would care when Romo throws multiple picks and loses a game. Or do you mean that only good stats don't matter when the result is a loss? Stats matter every bit as much in wins as they do in losses because they provide information for how a player played.

The season stats point to Barber being very effective and in no need of being benched (which you also said).

Your spin was just drained in the rinse cycle..
