I gotta give the Bengals some respect. They played the NFC East pretty tough last year. With all the turmoil that on with that team last year it would have been easy to just lay down. At least they had some fight in them. The defense at least showed against the Eagles. We can't really say that now can we?

You mean they didn't have the same injury problems and still lose half of their games by a single score?

The Cincinnati Bengals, who are steadily trying to improve the team’s pass-rush, have expressed interest in former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Ellis who was released by the club on Tuesday.

Ellis’ agent, James D. Williams, confirmed earlier today that the Bengals are one of five teams that expressed immediate interest in the pass-rusher after his release from Dallas.

Ellis would be reunited with defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer should he land in Cincinnati. It is expected that Ellis would be moved back to his natural defensive end position in the Bengals defense and work in rotation with Robert Geathers and Antwan Odom.

No visit has been scheduled for Ellis, but I’m told that further contact between the two sides is expected.

Not suprised I felt Cinn would be a good fit for Ellis. Zimmer knows Ellis and he fits well in Zimmer defense and given the problems Cinn has had on defense Ellis could be a big help to them.

The Bengals have a lot of young talent on D, but they could use a DE. Ellis would help them for sure.

Prediction- Bungles win more games than Cowboys this year.

That is not at all a leap....but I wouldn't predict it. Put it this way, if we go 8-8 I think you'll be correct. I just hope (and expect) that we win at least 10.

If Palmer stays healthy, the Bengals should be tough. When healthy they're one of the more fun teams to watch. And now that they've spent a few years uprgading the talent on D, don't be surpised if they break through.

Unless we have massive injuries or something I fail to see how the Bengals will win more games than Dallas. They have no running game and they still have the on-going distraction in Chad Johnson (I refuse to use his stage name). I am not at all convinced that Marvin Lewis is a quality NFL head coach and has control of his team.

And let's be very clear. Mike Zimmer is not going to take a couple of our rejects and mold them into the cornerstones of a great defense.

I agree...just saying it's not nearly as far-fetched as some would say. Also, Zimmer could cut those Dallas rejects and it would not impact them at all...they are not main cogs whatsoever in the Cincy D. I do think Ellis could help with depth though. Their D is very good....and young too. Those extra players are just Zim looking to extract some value at a fairly low cost.

Their offense was ranked dead last in the NFL last season...in large part due to all of the injuries. Even with huge burden, the D was still ranked 13th out of 32.

Like I said, I think they could top 8-8 this year. As long as we beat that--which I very much expect--then they won't have the better record.

I also think they had a terrifc draft.

Typical Zimmer defense though. Statistically shiny and impressive but unable to make the big stops when it counted. If you watched them play, it was like visiting our defense when he was here. Eventually, they'd just cave late in the game after looking okay for most of it.

Why would the Bungles be any good when they've stunk for years? They'll be at best third in their own division, and maybe even last.

They are adding former Cowboys of course. I mean, Mike Zimmer, Greg Ellis and Roy Williams have been key figures in our success over the years. Right?

I agree. Use him in a rotation, keep him fresh, ... he's not a bad pickup.

Right, I think he will be perfect in that situation.

You could be right. Pitt & Balt should be great and Cleveland will be improved. All I said was maybe better than 8-8 if all went well...that's not very good really.

Yes, they have been bad. Over the last 5 years they only have 1 division championship and have averaged only about 8 wins.

Oh yeah, in that span. Dallas also has only 1 division championship and has averaged about 9 wins. Just some trivia.

If I had to predict, I'd say Dallas goes somewhere between 9-7 and 11-5 and Cincy somewhere between 7-9 and 10-6.

He would have been good in that role in Dallas also. But he still fancies himself as a starter and appears to have a serious hangup about not being afforded that status. Unless he's paid very well to be a spot player, I don't see him sitting behind people like Geathers and Odom and simply being content. He and Julius Jones were probably treated the same way by this staff. They were "starters" even though the staff knew that their reserves were actually as good or better but they were afraid to upset anyone.

Dallas at least has been able to be competitive in the most brutal division in football. Cincinnati has been hopelessly outclassed by Pittsburgh and Baltimore and has a tough time even fending off the Browns twice a year. I don't see that changing any time soon.

Very true, but sometimes a dose of REAL reality tends to changes one's perspective on the situation. Maybe it will or won't. And as you said, it is up to him, being content and playing his part in his role, or not.
As in his case, actully getting his wish to be released, he may find out he should have just kept his mouth shut, and played that role in Dallas. He was closer to a ring with Dallas than with Cincy, if he ends up there.
