NFL refs are just universally below average or outright bad. Why is it so much to ask to just enforce the rules consistently? The league will eventually lose a lot of fans if this trend keeps getting worse.

So the league will make a statement after the game....ah sorry, the play should have been ruled dead because of the whistle, so our bad sorry!

The whistle did not make any difference.
As someone said, maybe the ref blew his whistle too early. Maybe he thought it was caught before it actually was.

Right? Once the Bengals win by 3

It’s disgusting that the league has borderline made it illegal to criticize the refs.

Bengals finally punting

Penalties have hurt them last 2 drives

Least penalized team in the league coming in

The point is that an erroneous whistle automatically kills the play and you’re required to play the down again. It’s a very clear rule that’s been enforced for a very long time. But now, the refs decided to arbitrarily ignore it. It’s flat out wrong.

as I said. .1 second before the ball was caught. It had no bearing on the play.

Instead of making statements, they could actually take more steps to ensure that their Refs aren't incompetent to the point where their horrible officiating starts to impact the momentum or outcome of playoff games. But the NFL insists are making their Refs untouchable for the most part and will rather defend incompetent officiating than try to do something about it. Which one would be fining Refs and another could making crews who officiate horribly in multiple regular season games, ineligible to call playoff games.
