With all the negativity about the team after the last game i thought I'd go back and look for some positives. I went back and watched both games and focused specifically on one Benson Mayowa.
I noticed some positive things from him. He uses his hands pretty well in pass rush situations and shows enough burst to effectively apply pressure against LTs.
I watched every snap he played against NY and Denver and from my count, he applied pressure on the QB twice against NY and should have been credited with a sack, and he applied pressure on the QB three times against Denver, one of the pressures he actually drove the LT back into the QB, leading to an inaccurate pass along the sideline from Simien. His run defense is not very good, but Mayowa makes a pretty darn good pass rushing DE.

And that's a follow-up on the last half of 2016, where he was coming on strong.

He's no war daddy...as you mention...perhaps not a good run defender. But along with Lawrence and our returning guys...I'm thinking we can attain an average pass rush...perhaps even an above average pass rush.

Yeah he's too light to be effective vs the run.

We had that last year. We were 13th in sacks in 2016

Agreed. Actually think he's played decently the last two games. Nothing flashy but solid play.

I think mayowa showed the most out of any de last year. Hopefully Moore will help and Irving when he comes back too.

And if this was about Tapper or Taco you would call them Jags and say need to see more of Mayowa.
No. Big fan of Tapper. He has the it factor as a pass rusher and he has been good at stopping the run. Need to see more of him over Mayowa. Unfortunately I think Moore coming back will eat into Tappers plays.

I like Tappers upside more than Mayowa, but need to see all four you mentioned a bit more. Well, see Moore for the first time when it counts.

I consider that to be goalposts moving.
Because if pressures are good that means Tyrone Crawford played great last year because he was near the top of NFL in pressures

So let's track your logic:
Any stat in which Tyrone Crawford excelled must not be a valid stat.

Uh...makes total sense. Who could argue with the rationality of that!

He came on last year, kinda expected a tad more from him this year but it's still early...

Crawford's another solid player who recieves too much criticism. He's a pretty good pressure player (He put more pressure on Simien from the 3T spot than Collins did BTW!). His only problem is he is significantly overpaid, but the time to possibly address that was in the offseason.

So the OP actually went back and watched film and gives an analysis of a player and you respond with " x and y should be playing instead" Lol you couch potatoes kill me
Mayowa to me is effective but he isnt a complete player rusher. He is very effective wide gap rusher, but not very effective in a 7 gap. Lawrence is an odd pairing with him as Lawrence has rushed most effectively in his career out of a wide gap on the strong side ( although I do believe one of his sacks so far was from 6 or 7 gap.)

Irving is a great pairing for Mayowa. Is he should be able to rush from a 6 and 7 gap while letting Mayowa come from a 9 gap. This way you dont have to spread your defense out too much leaving you susceptible to counters.

I think when Irving comes back you will see pairings of Lawrence and Charlton and Irving and Mayowa with Tapper and Moore rotating in.
