Parcells just indicated in the PC that they were going to have a discussion about Berriault -- but he didn't want to discuss it until they "talked to the player first"

Sounds to me like Berriault is going to either go on IR or get an injury settlement.

That's too bad, he looked like he had potential.

I would hope we go the injury settlement route. He earned that at least.

Or IR.

Although Bill didn't address it, my guess is that his knee isn't ready. And it may never be.

Didn't sound good for him. But Bill didn't rule out him playing Saturday.

Wouldn't it be better for him to go on I-R? He'd get more money in the end and could tryout for the team next season. By getting an injury settlement, he'd probably take in about $40K and would have the opportunity to play elsewhere, but that's no guarantee he'll make a roster.

Another example of TC phenom who never pans out for one reason or another.

That's why I wait until we start playing some real games before I fall in love with a young guy just based on positive practice reports.

I hate it for him because he played like he loved the game. I remember Kiper loved the guy.

If he goes on IR, he'll earn $195,000 this season, but he won't be able to play or practice. If he accepts an injury settlement, he'll probably get less money, but he could play again this season (either with another team or with us, if he waits until we're allowed to re-sign him).

Steve Dennis was saying he talked to him the other day and he still didn't seem right... And he didn't even remember the couple of days before he got hit in the head. So that was some concussion. Scary stuff.

But that along with the knee makes me think he's done. Too bad.

That's why IR isn't exactly the best route. That eliminates him from this year and that would be two years he had to sit out. If he wants to play football again elsewhere (or here) this year, then we would be giving him a better opportunity with the settlement. We probably like him and will leave the decision up to him, which is why Coach Parcells stated they needed to talk first.

I recall in the PC Bill said something to the effect of it not just being the concussion - it might be that his knee doesn't look like it will hold up -- if that is the evaluation, wouldn't he have to go in IR? If the staff doesn't think his knee will allow him to play -- after just a handful of practices, then he'd do well to simply refuse the settlement.

yeah, but maybe he didn't rule him out because he knew he'd be off the roster by that time?

I think BP already knows that Berry-o is not going to make it- probably the knee just aint going to be able to hold up. He might be willing to give the kid a chance to play in one last game, then let him go. BP is supposedly not a sentimental guy, but it would not suprise me. He really likes this kid.

I wouldn't be surprised to see BP give him another shot if he can get his knee healthy. If Lynn Scott can keep coming back so can Berry-O.

Sure. But that knee. He had a surgery that is pretty experimental at this point. You'd have to expect a poor success rate. i really hope he can go on IR and we can see what, if anything, he's got next year.
