Berman gets honor? Groan

How Chris Berman made it into the Hall (albeit via Rozelle's award) before Brent Musburger is beyond me. Seemingly, the voting practice is as flawed within the Board of Selectors' consideration process for one of their peers as it is with the players themselves.

Just wow. Still, it should give San Francisco fans a lot more to cheer about on enshrinement weekend. Maybe Jerry Rice will be slightly jealous. :)

And....how can the NFL give an award for outstanding contributions to TV and radio football broadcasting to Berman and bozos like Irv Cross before giving it to John Facenda. He was incredible working for the league's own NFL Films. So they give it to "The Swami" before "The Voice of God?" Ugh.

:hammer:

That's my point. I don't care if Berman likes the Cowboys or not. He's overrated. There are more deserving candidates. Being a carnival barker on ESPN doesn't mean you're a talented professional.

Over under on how many minutes into his acceptance speech before he bangs on Dallas?

Brent Musberger!

Give me a break.

There is not a woman alive who wouldn't throw their panties at a charmer like that.

Because he works with the league and not within radio or television?

Steve Sabol deserved it much much more

Doesn't he work for the league and not necessarily in radio or television?

I think he deserves a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, if he's not in already.

Maybe. I couldn't find anything on the award other than it's given for "longtime exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football". I don't even know who selects the winner. Unless they do bar their own--which would seem rare in a constant back-patting league like the NFL--
Facenda would have been a far better choice.

Can Brent Musburger lose 50 lbs on Nutrisystem? I don't think so!

I'd pay money to see Jimmy The Greek rise from the dead and slug Berman like he did Musberger.
I've always wondered whether there was anyone associated with The NFL Today show who ever really cared for Jimmy? He always had a gruff personality. Didn't Phyllis George stop associating with him altogether (or am I thinking about Jayne Kennedy)?

Which begs the question...Phyllis George..or Jayne Kennedy?

Put me down for the latter.

Back then, I'm not sure how anyone could go wrong with either option... but if I had the choice, mine would echo yours. :p:

Well, the NFL wouldn't be where it is today without radio and television. So, yes, this award is valid, and someone should get it.

Madden doesn't get it probably because he was a coach (don't know if he's already in the Hall of Fame).

And Cosell is dead, though Cosell should have been an award winner if he hasn't been already.

Oh, I'm sure it is a valid award. But should it be given EVERY year?

Since 1989, 21 people have received the award.

Maybe it is time to scale back the timetable a bit ... and present the award every other year, or every third year.

'cause they are fast running out of viable, obviously deserving candidates, IMO.
