Let me break down a few things about the 2014 cap.
1. Tony Romo makes 13.5 million in 2014 in base salary. If 2013 is a resounding success, don't be surprised if they don't restructure Tony Romo in 2014. You can save about 10 million in 2014 by restructuring Romo alone.
Total savings: 10 million
2. Brandon Carr's contract can actually be restructured comfortably at least one more time. Can save 4.58 million dollars.
Total Savings 14.58 million.
3. Doug Free would be cut in 2013. This actually saves an additional 4.02 million next year.
Total Savings: 18.6 million
4. Cutting Jay Ratliff in June 2014 saves 5.5 million in 2014 and 7 million in 2015.
Total Savings 24.1 million
5. Cutting Orlando Scandrick in June 2014 saves 3.5 million in 2014, and 1.3975 million in 2015.
Total Savings: 27.5 million
6. Cutting Livings in june 2014 saves 3.4 million in 2014 and 2.5575 million in 2015.
Total Savings: 30.9 million
7. Cutting Mackenzy Bernadeau in June 2013 saves 715k this year and will cost us 397,333 in 2014
Total Savings: 30.502667
8. Cutting Justin Durant in 2014 saves 1.25 million dollars.
Total Savings: 31.75 million dollars
9. You can probably restructure Miles Austin one more time as well. That would save you 3.1 million
Total Savings: 34.85 million dollars.
-143,450,105 - 34.85 million is 108.6 million. Well below the 2013 salary cap let alone whatever the 2014 salary cap would be.
You're still left space to resign Sean Lee. And various other smaller cuts allow you to make other moves.
