I saw the post on Proctor and his comments on Texas BBQ. I live in Oklahoma but go to every Dallas home game.

What is the best BBQ place in Dallas. I love BBQ, but it can be very hit or miss. I am trying to avoid a miss.

The best place used to be this joint off the rail road tracks in Pleasant Grove, called 'Sam's Barbecue.' Old Man Sam would get up every day and cook his meat. You got meat, a roll and beans to eat. Ham, brisket, ribs (i think).

He retired a while back and I think the place closed down. Fond childhood memories though.

She doesn't live in Dallas, but my Mom makes great BBQ. Now that I think about it, my brother is pretty good at it too. He got all her cooking skills.

I may ask one of 'em to put something on the pit when I go up there soon.

Red Hot and Blue Memphis style bbq

You must be joking. Now, you and I obviously have different ideas of what barbecue is. But even for Tennessee barbecue, Red Hot and Blue doesn't cut it. I've had better than that even in Tennessee.

Calhoun's in Knoxville is amazing.

What a coincidence! I happen to be leaving CA this week to go back home. I live what, 15-20 min from Ft Worth?

I can stop being vegetarian for a couple of hours.:D

I'll tell her to throw a celery stalk on the pit for you. :D

Because my Mom's is so good, I don't particularly like restaurant BBQ. It's too bland and the sauce is usually so-so.

The best BBQ I've had in Houston as far as the sauce is at this place called Sweet Mesquite. This other place called Charlie's is ok, too. At fairs and carnivals, I may get a turkey leg, but that's about it.

It is the only real IE Memphis style bbq place I know of in Dallas

but Corky's is still the best

PLEASE refrain from teeing these up so high for us "wisenheimer" posters. You're making it very hard for us to avoid banishment! :p: ;) :D

Good BBQ needs no sauce.

I agree.....I prefer dry rub

Yep... sauce on the side for dipping if you so desire...
Sorry for the confusion, but that's exactly what I mean. I like sauce, but it's not going ON my Q...on the side as trick says.

Baker's Ribs is pretty good. They just won The Dallas Observer's "Best Of" yearly award.

Sonny Bryans is also a good choice, although since they've franchised, some locations are better than others at times.

Randy White's BBQ in Frisco is ok, and sometimes he's there.

My all-time fav is the following, however it's in Fort Worth, but damn sure worth the trip.

Angelo's Barbecue [Map]
2533 White Settlement Road
Fort Worth TX 76107

Sonny Bryan's in the West End, any Baker's Ribs, and Spring Creek Barbeque is not bad either.

The original Sonny Bryan's is still good. They screwed up by franchising though.

Angelo's is one of the most overrated BBQ places in the metro plex.

Sweet Mesquite, while good,is a franchise,I believe. If you want good pecan smoked brisket and ribs around Houston,go find "The Swinging Door" outside of Richmond,Texas, off Hwy 359! You will go back!
