I think we do not sign Jared Allen, as he is a progress-blocker for Selvie (who I think should be moved to weakside DE) or a draft pick like Ealy or Dee Ford. I think we should re-sign Anthony Spencer to a prove-it 1-year deal to play strongside DE in a rotation with Mincey. Then we'll have a very solid DL rotation with Selvie, Mincey, Spencer, and rookie at DE; and Melton, Bass, Crawford at 3-Tech, with Hayden and McClain at 1-Tech.

I didn not follow it. Is is this Bass thing legaly possible/sorted out yet ?

my ideal plan would be:

1. Allen on a reasonable 2 year deal (if possible), if this is not reasonable, consider ayers who is 28 (i think)
2. Still take donald or jernigan in rd 1 (preferably after trade down)
3. Still take 1-2 DL between picks 2-4 depending on value. There will be several DE/DT options there
4. Still take a 1 tech DT around rd 5-7 (there are several options there)

there is enough flexibility in my plan above to take a FS in rd 2 (like the terrence brooks or ward [shout out to @casmith07]) and OL in rds 3-4 (like thomas/bitonio/turner etc) and LBs to back up the guys we already have

I like your plan. but ;-)

I'd love us to draft a RT/G high to be able to get rid of Free next season.
I would not give Allen a 2 year deal. 1 year fill gap deal at a good price. but that seems not possible right now as Allen looks for money and does want to be on another team.

I love Jarred Allen. He brings a nasitness to our team we lacked with Ware. I did not like Ware because he was a "nice" player. I've never played against him but if i had to Allen would have been the one player i feared more just because of his nastiness.

I think Melton is a progress stopper to Bass.

If it were possible to stop the progress of Ben Bass.

Blasphemer! It is a well known fact, accepted by both Science and Theology alike, that Ben Bass can not be stopped.

I would like you to go sit down in a dark closet somewhere and contemplate your actions here.

George Selvie is no spring pup. You don't worry about stopping his progress because he has hit his ceiling already.

Gotta disagree, what if he thrives in this system? It's no farfetched for a high motor guy to find a system that suits his play (van den bosh, I. Idoneje, micheal Bennett, james Harrison, parys harrilson) *excuse spelling* a few of those guys we're in their late 20's early 30's and excelled. If anything selvie is a gamble worth taking with a proper rotation.

I still want allen, will Smith, and Kevin Williams tho

DIdn't Selvie play SDE this past season? i would leave him there and hopefully find a WDE in the 1st/2nd round of the draft.

Any chance Anthony Barr is moved to 4-3 DE in the pros?

I've heard he can play end or LB... if he's available, I'd take him. If he puts on 10 lbs or so in the offseason he'll be fine. Worst case scenario, he can't transition to DE and we address another need at OLB.

I know it's not a popular plan, but he's one guy who may be worth trading up for.

Yeah heard he was a 4-3 end or linebacker, that teams worked him out at end

The chances of that being our front 4 in Sept is easily under 50/50.

I think any lineup anybody brings up is 50/50 especially once we draft guys and they battle it out in TC, but for now I think that's the lineup too enter minicamp and beginning of camp for now

Right now, it's looking:

SDE: Crawford, Mincey
1-tech: McClain, Hayden
3-tech: Melton, Bass
WDE: Selvie, Mincey

You might switch Mincey and Selvie around, depending. We need another WDE in any case...my guess is we'll resign Spencer to a one year deal or draft one in the first 2 rounds (I doubt we sign Allen). Mincey can get some work in as a nickel rusher as well.
