Hi,

I have two dogs. A Husky and German Shepherd.

Been mixing and matching. Would love to know about other dog lovers choices and or mixes. Brands etc.

Thanks

I've always heard science diet or iams was the best. My dog prefers pedigree. She won't eat any other brand.

Science Diet is the best brand of dog food you can give your dog (By FAR) and don't EVER give your dog canned food, unless you enjoy paying 100's of dollars on your dogs' dental bills.

i feed my jack russell terrier Science Diet not much of a diet as her breed its "supposta" weight 15-16 lbs and she weights in at a "hefty" 22 lbs but she runs and plays with pitbulls and rotts so i think shes trying to buff up for em lol

NO brand listed here is the best brand for your dog. The following website has a decent selection of foods that are truly the best for your canine. These are foods that don't have crap for ingredients. Regardless if the first ingredient listed on a lot of commercially-available foods is some kind of meat as well as listing a ton of "nutritionally-sound" ingredients, most of them are not the best for your dog.

Exactly. The stuff you can buy at Wal-Mart or the grocery store is trash. Most of the stuff you can buy at the major chain pet stores are also trash. I feed my dog Innova Red Meat Large Bites. It's expensive, but for a 90 pound dog, he only needs 3.5 cups of it. It lasts a while so it evens out in the end and your dog will be eating stuff that's really good for him.

I get it at a mom and pop pet store nearby the house. I assure you, if you do a little research on this, you'll realize that all those commercials for dog foods on TV like Beneful are just covering up for the fact that they're feeding your dog cardboard. Don't fall for it.

Eukanuba dry dog food is my recommendation. Their poop'll be solid and if you feed your dog on a regular schedule ie same time morning and night, they'll return the favor.

Beneful by Purina
(Dry Dog Food)
Beef flavor.

We mix in can food as a treat ONCE A WEEK ONLY, usually on weekends. This is to keep his coat shiny and it's good to grease his insides once a week since he eats dry food all the time. It's not good for your animal to give it can food everyday.

Ok.

My research has turned up the following. Not saying it is true or not. I still want to hear what you owners have to say.

Just posting this info.

Science Diet - seems that the ingredients are poor quality. Which baffles me because the name, for me, should indicate that it is a proper mixture of good ingredients.

Regular dog food brands - chemicals and poor quality. Grain and by products and filler.

Also it seems that manufacturers have found a loophole in their listing ingredients. When a manufacturer receives its meats for processing. Whatever chemicals were added BEFORE they received it DO NOT have to be listed on the label.

That is troubling to me.

Sort of like for us humans. The poultry manufacturer can label chicken cutlets as "steroid free" or "antibiotic free"... here comes the loophole... WHEN the chicken hasnt been fed any steroids in the last month or so of its life.

So they can have steroids for a couple of months. Then during the last month they take them off because they have grown to full size THEN label is as "antibiotic or steroid free"

What were you thinking?

Cat food is incredibly rough on a dog's liver (or is it kidneys? I forget).

DO NOT LET YOUR DOGS EAT CAT FOOD.

Science Diet is the BEST dog food you can give your dog. Period.

I worked at a vet clinic, I think I know what I'm talking about.

And vets barely make any money off science diet. It's an expensive dog food, but vets don't usually make much off of it.

I got all my dog food at cost, but barely noticed a difference in the "normal" cost of my dog food compared to the "discounted" (at cost) price.

I don't care what that article says, not even gonna bother clicking it. I believe the word of my vet (that I worked with) then I do some internet article.

Sorry but that's a giant load of BS.

And Canned dog food doesn't "Grease" a dang thing.

You make an open claim that Science Diet is the best dog food period and your claim on backing it up is due to prior employment at a clinic and what somebody told you? Please. SD in my opinion is over-rated and is barely better than grocery store dog food. Just the fact that you will not even blink at doing your own research but rather believe only one person exhibits extreme biasedness.

So if I state that I believe Science Diet is not the best and I could post links to quite a few reviews from dog owners who have complained about Science Diet as well as ingredient comparisons to other far better brands, you wouldn't even look at it? I guess it is pointless then to prove my point.

I believe CowboyFan74 was simply stating that they give their dog a can occasionally due to having a softer texture to consume as well as the fact that I believe some canned dog foods provide essential Omega fatty acids to have a better delivery than a dry kibble. I believe the term "grease the insides" wasn't meant to be taken literally.
