"Das Boot"

Man it half everything: submarines, danger, sinking ships.

And it is shot from the point of view that these German submariners are regular guys.
And they get many occasions to dis Hitler.
At one point, as they are sinking allied ships I am going: "Yeah!" Then I catch myself and feel guilty. But that is great filmmaking when you actually bond with the characters.

I highly recommend thisl. Das boot mean The Boat, by the way.

Then you need to watch U-571 next. Both are great movies. Das Boot, Bridge on the river Kwai, Saving Private Ryan, The Dirty Dozen, and The Big Red One are probably my favorite WWII movies.

Can add "The Thin Red line" and Schindler's List". One that is overlooked IMO is "Enemy at the Gates" in which a Russian and a German sniper play a game out cat and mouse during the Battle of Stalingrad, an excellent movie.

Nice selection there. I'd throw in 'Soldier of Orange', and despite all the technical screwups, 'Memphis Belle'. Also have a fondness for 'Guns of Navarrone', and 'Where Eagles Dare'.

Yeah Enemy at the Gates is overlooked often. I thought it was a pretty good movie, but it's hard to look at Ed Harris and say "yeah, that's what a **** looks like".

I thought he pulled it off, much more so than Cruise in "Valkyrie" anyways

Hope you got to see the directors cut of "The Boat". It's about 30-40 minutes longer than the regular version. I own very, very few DVD's. This is one of them.
If you ever in Chicago and get the chance, go to the Museum of Science and Industry and take the inside tour of the U-505. An actual U-Boat captured and brought to the museum.Spend a little bit of time in the cramped space of the boat, then watch the movie again!

That was a great movie. I highly suggest it to everyone who has not seen it.
