Best part about new West Coast Offense. Shorter Routes

One thing I like about implementing more WC concepts is that the WR's will be running quick/shorter routes.
Kellen Moore ran a Zampese based offense that called for longer developing routes. It really hurt Dak and the offense running that scheme because the O-line couldn't hold up all of the time waiting for those routes to develop and led to Dak getting hit or causing him to have Dlinemen right in his face when throwing.
The quicker routes will take advantage of our WR speed and hopefully result in big YAC plays.

Moore ran the Garrett version of the timing-based offense, which relies too much on skill and not enough on scheme. His version was better than Garrett's because he did actually create some mismatches, but did not include enough pressure-busting plays that are needed against top defenses. There seemed to be a limited amount of flexibility in the playbook.

I've wanted us to switch to McCarthy's offense since he was hired because he has proven that it can succeed while we've seen some talented players only be able to take the Garrett scheme so far. That doesn't mean I prefer the West Coast over the timing-based offense. Each can succeed in the right hands and with the right personnel. But in the wrong coaching hands, each can also fail.

I like it because it is more horizontal rather than vertical stop routes. At least, I hope so……

I love those 5 yard routes when we need 7 for the 1st down. Good times people. Good times.

I am hoping they implement more slants and crossing routes like WC traditionally uses because that's what I have been complaining about with Garrett and Moore's play calling for years.

During those years, we kept running those vertical, stop and turn back routes on a lot of pass plays which made it very easy for conerbacks to defend while seeing the ball coming.

The scheme change can potentially generate more explosive yardage after the catch plays even if dink-and-dunk is applicable. The notable separation receivers demonstrated in preseason looks really promising to me for regular season play.
Problem is Dak has streaky accuracy...and sometimes his ball placement is off in the teeth of the defense. I'm not sold this is automatically better.

Please, discontinue the naked screens.
If they are playing off then they need to keep hitting that. It's an easy 5 yards. One broken tackle is a 10 - 15 yard. 2 and it has a chance to take it to the house.

And yet what we see more than not is the defense tackle for little or no gain. I get the idea behind that pass play and what it brings, which translates to an aggressive defender, a quick juke, and the receiver breaking free to gets past the defender for a longer pass completion. But there is something about that specific play that is lethargic. I don't know if it is Dak's release, or the general play by the team, but it's nowhere near enough feast, and a lot more famine.

Not when they are playing off coverage.

When Kellen and Dak actually had weapons in '21...they posted this:

Team...
#1 in Points
#1 in Total Yards
#4 in net Yards per Pass Attempt

Dak...
#3 in Quarterback rating
#9th best (lowest) interception rate

Dallas now has weapons again--perhaps the best in many years. It will be interesting to see how this season compares with a modified offense.

There's also this:

With Kellen Moore calling the plays and Dak Prescott still under center, the Cowboys averaged 29.9 PPG since 2019. That is the highest PPG among all NFL offenses during that span.

Fans are always smarter than the guy calling the plays. Always.

Dallas lead the league in takeaways the last two years. How many of those points were with the offense still on the bench or on short fields? In 2021 for example, 9 of the teams 64 touchdowns were scored with the offense cheering on the sideline.

Unfortunately, I don't see anyone that tabulates points off turnovers but I do have this tweet:
