Real Mexican food you CAN find here, but thats the problem. Real Mexican food is bland. It's Tex-Mex that is good. The main difference between Mexican food and Tex-Mex is Tex-Mex has a lot more flavor.

All Mexican restraunts here are bland, but thats all I can get for my Mexican food fix.
Mexican food is not bland. I grew up on the Mexican border and have eaten in Mexico all my life. I don't know what crap they are feeding you, but it isn't real Mexican food if it is bland. Probably some bad British version, because their food is bland.

British version.

Mexican up here in the NE is nothing impressive. At least I haven't gone to any that are. I've gone to some places that claim to be authentic Mexican', but all I can figure is higher grade meat than Taco Bell.

If there is a difference between Quesadilla, Taco, Burrito & Fajita, aside from how they appear, I don't know what it is. Just shredded meats wrapped in some form of tortilla, hard or soft, with cheese, onions, etc... and guac on the side. The same dish, molded differently and called something else.

There's your answer. I bet the best ethnic restaurants would be Cuban food.

I've never tried Cuban, but the Spanish Restaurants are awesome.
I don't like the city of Newark, but the Spanish Tavern and Iberian Peninsula are some awesome restaurants and worth the trip.

Iberia has had rodizio for a very long time, and it's the best I've had.

Maybe you were eating Tex-Mex on the boarder and didn't know it. :p: Well, either that or you suffer from what we refer to as "The Ragu Effect". Which basically is when someone thinks crap is good because all they ever had was crap! :laugh2: (It obviously got it's name because someone thought Ragu was good, because they've never actually had a good spaghetti sauce)

I've eaten all kinds of Mexican from Texas, New York, New Mexico and in many locale in Mexico itself. My bothers ex-wife was an illegal alien before they were married. It is without question my opinion that *real* Mexican food is bland.

Give me Tex-Mex or give me death! :laugh2:

EDIT: Oh, there is one other options that may have happen when you were eating Mexican food. You applied salt liberally before you ate it! :)

You think I ate Tex Mex food on someone who was renting from me? No, I think I would remember that.

Menudo is bland? Posole is bland? Cocido is bland? Anything cooked with chili is bland? Chicharones are bland? Barbacoa is bland? Birrea is bland?

Hey, I fully agree that refried beans, rice and tortillas which are a staple are kind of bland, but Mexican food is far from bland. In Cancun they actually make fruit tacos. Tacos from mangos, papayas, bananas, and other fruits. In many places in Mexico staple foods are shrimp, crab, and other meats.

I don't know what you have eaten to base that opinion on, but it is off base. As far as the Ragu comment, the tomato was actually discovered by the Aztecs (root word tomatl) in Mexico and taken worldwide. So was chocolate (root word chocolatl). The Italians may have perfected use of tomatoes, and Swiss may have perfected chocolate, but they got it from Mexican Indians.

There are no Taco Bells where I live. Only Mom and Pap joints. Most chain restaurants aren't allowed to open where I live. We have a Subway, and there happens to be a McDonalds physically "on the highway". Meaning you exit the highway to get to it and then back on the highway. You can't get to it without getting on the highway. Thats because my town won't let them build there.

When I say bland, I'm not talking about spice. I'm talking about bland.

Done, but I meant spicy, not spice. Jalapenos are about as much flavor as you get out of Mexican food. It's a shame I don't like the flavor of Jalapenos.

Can I vote on who gets blessed?

I honestly don't know what the hell he is yacking about. Maybe he doesn't know what bland means. I've eaten Mexican food all my life and have never heard it called bland before by anyone.

Next Mexican restaurant you go to ask for some albondigas.

:laugh2:

Maybe the choice of word was wrong?

A quick google tells me albondigas are meatballs.
I'm going to have to write all of those things down and see if I can't find them at some Mexican Restaurant up here. I may try a certain place this weekend and see where it gets me. :D
