I’m a Dak fan and have supported him since his fairy tale first preseason when he stepped up for Romo. I still like the guy.

That being said - is Dak and the huge contract in the best interest of the team when improvements are needed all over the team in both lines as well as the rest of the defense.

Is Signing Dalton and going with him during the transition the better move?

Meanwhile....

No.

Its impossible to really know without knowing what Dalton gets. But if Dalton is going to be our starting QB for the next few years....he's not signing a 3 million dollar deal lol.
You and I don’t really know what Dalton would sign a 2 - 3 yr deal especially if he thought he had a chance for a ring. It certainly would be far far less than Dak. Daks gonna be looking at 35 - 40 a yr for 5-6 years. Dalton maybe 10-12 for 3. That’s a savings of 25 mil a yr.

You say we don’t know what Dalton will make, then go on to state what Dalton will make.

Dak and that huge contract is not in the best interest of the Cowboys. But that is the cost it will take to sign him and you need a franchise QB. Don't be fooled, Dalton is NOT it!

There is really another thing to consider. It's easy to point the finger at Dak's deal, but don't forget about horrible deals already on the books: Crawford, Jaylon, Zeke and some would say Lee. Getting past those will make it easier to get a big contract like Dak will get and stay under the salary cap.

Transition to what?

I don't like paying big QB money but if you're banking on the circus at the Star to nail the next one they draft you have more faith than I. Remember they settled on Dak after failing to trade for two busts (Lynch and Cook). They got lucky, same as when they fell into Romo a year drafting Quincy Carter.

Then there's Jerry lamenting not drafting Manziel instead of Martin after that draft. He's got a keen eye for QBs.

This is not how the salary cap works though lol. But in order for me to explain to you how the salary cap works we have to know what Dalton is getting and there is nothing to suggest he'd play or 10 million a year. Why would he play for 10 million a year when he can get more elsewhere? I like how we can't guess on what Dalton will make but you will guess what Dak makes lol.

Right lol....ain't that something?

While I am not a fan of paying Dak 35-40 million, Dalton has not instilled a lot of confidence either. He has not played poorly but he has not lit it up until Sunday either.

There is no QB we could get at our current position that would help unless Zach Wilson falls - I would take him in a heartbeat and try to build around him. I think he will be a very good player in the NFL. He pocket precense and ability to get out of the pocket is elite and that is a big thing I look for these days. He may end up better than Lawrence IMO.

Just can't see pating Dak that much - don't think we win anything doing that.

A lot of QB's can win games with this offense. Especially if you get the line back to full strength next year.

What is the best way to construct the best roster possible?

Is there a QB who is a difference maker?

If you aren't convinced any of your QB options are difference makers, then no need to pay a premium. Use the money elsewhere.

Dalton is a better QB than Dak. He’s playing with a third-string make-shift line and winning.

Imho if this team is serious about winning with the core nucleus it's already built than you resign Dak Dak and roll the dice.

Rebuilding. I take a look at Mac Jones from Alabama.

There is an argument for this for sure . Plus we don’t know if Dak will be as effective after the injury .
