you know, I dont remember the Staubach years....I was way too young. Also, I dont like Steve Young at all. I have seen film of some of his games. Plus I have read and heard accounts of Roger from many, many sources. IMO, from a leadership, athletic ability, passing and scrambling combination, and tough/hardnosed style of play, I would say they are very similar. Roger is right handed and Young is left handed.....but the two guys were bulldogs at the QB position. They were duel threads who could beat you with their arms or their legs. They owned the huddle and the respect of their peers. Both were extremely cerebral.

I know since Young was a Niner and is a Super Villian on this site, my assessment might be met with harsh words.....but IMO, they are eerily similar.

IMO, Romo could be higher on that list. He has the ability to run more. There are many times when he has huge lanes to run for about 10-15 yds before sliding, but doesnt. In his first year he would do it.....last year he was playing like Vaughn from Major League 2, being ultra conservative. I want the wild child back.....Mr. Carefree......I want the guy who improvises and excites. I think if he comes back, we may get 3,500 yds passing and 300 yds rushing. On the other hand, with the 3-headed monster behind him.....I'd rather leave the running to them. Still, on passing downs, when the D is giving him an acre to run.....he needs to run and slide.

Including the playoffs, Steve Young holds the record for most rushing TDs by a QB with 55. He has 4877 yards to go along with them too. Only Randall Cunningham has more rushing yards (5091) but has 19 fewer TDs than Young.

People underestimate Steve Young because he played on a talented team and in a passer-friendly system, and I agree that his high passer rating benefits because of that, but he was a very skilled and tough QB.

Romo needs to run more often and more effectively. I don't want him to start running every time the play breaks down but once he sees that no one is open then put the ball away and run for it. Way too many times he passed up opportunities to gain some good yards because he was still looking downfield. Too many times he fumbled the ball because he was running around looking to throw instead of just putting it away and trying to gain positive yards. Keep the drive alive Tony!

what bugged me last year about Romo was on 2nd or 3rd and short....he would dance around the pocket or force bad passes, instead of taking the running lane and the gimme 5 yd runs the D was giving him. I felt he could have extended many drives last year with his feet, but didn't take advantage of it. I am not asking him to go Michael Vick out there. Just be cognicent of the situation. If Dallas needs 2 yds for a 1st, and he has room to run, tuck and go.....get the 1st, slide and get 4 new downs to work with.

I remember Springs threw one of them, who threw the other? Newsome?

Ha, looked it up and it was RB James Jones. Never would have guessed him.

At least I was right about Ron Springs throwing the one in 1983.

When was the last time we ran the HB-option? Landry used to like throwing that in once in a while especially with Dan Reeves or Calvin Hill.

Keyshawn was the last one we used but he went 0-3. Well, Witten threw a pass last year but I don't remember that.
We should try running one with Crayton or Stanback. It'd be interesting

Put up number of fumbles and Ill find Romo without a problem

You sure about that?

If I listed the top fumbling seasons for each of several Cowboys QBs, you might find it difficult to find him. Here you are then, pick out Romo from these nine Cowboys QBs:

Number of fumbles & percentage of fumbles per pass attempt:

1. 17 - 3.41%
2. 16 - 4.95%
3. 14 - 3.58%
4. 13 - 2.89%
5. 10 - 1.98%
6. 09 - 2.38%
7. 08 - 2.22%
8. 08 - 1.81%
9. 07 - 2.97%

Now give me a name for each number and we'll see if you are right. Try it without looking online for the stats.

Did Warren Moon, Dave Kreig, or Dante Culpepper play for Dallas without my knowledge?

Number of fumbles & percentage of fumbles per pass attempt:

1. 17 - 3.41% - Drew Bledsoe 2005 - 499 attempts
2. 16 - 4.95% - Don Meredith 1964 - 323 attempts
3. 14 - 3.58% - Danny White 1981 - 391 attempts
4. 13 - 2.89% - Tony Romo 2008 - 450 attempts
5. 10 - 1.98% - Quincy Carter 2003 - 505 attempts
6. 09 - 2.38% - Steve Pelluer 1986 - 378 attempts
7. 08 - 2.22% - Roger Staubach 1977 - 361 attempts
8. 08 - 1.81% - Troy Aikman 1999 - 442 attempts
9. 07 - 2.97% - Eddie LeBaron 1961 - 236 attempts

So to rank them by fumble percentage would look like this:

1. Aikman 1.81%
2. Carter 1.98% (Yep, Quincy Freakin Carter!)
3. Staubach 2.22%
4. Pelluer 2.38%
5. Romo 2.89%
6. LeBaron 2.97%
7. Bledsoe 3.41%
8. White 3.58%
9. Meredith 4.95%

These were the worst fumbling season for each QB. Again, perception isn't always based in reality.

Hos didn't make a stab at the numbers, he just pegged that the guy who made the statement wouldn't be up for the challenge, and of course he was right.
