Yeah, the Roy trade was a panic move. Every team misses -- and it's been one of our few whifs in terms of giving up too much for a guy.

but you have to wonder, if we did not make the move and trade for Roy, would we of ever found out Austin can play?

think about the chain of events. we would of either kept TO or we would of panicked because we wouldn't of had a "#1" wr on the team and traded bigger for someone else.

I know this whole draft class is full of a bunch of back ups and special teamers, but I'm excited to see what Wade can do with a 6-1/240 ILB with 4.45 speed and 40 inch vert. Butler and Brandon should give Ware and Spencer a nice break now and then and provide more pressure on the QB.

I agree....Williams is going to be a beast....just have this hunch about him. Butler will probably chip in with four or five sacks next year but more importantly become a little better against the run and like you said spell Spencer and DWare more often. Along with Phillips, Brewster and Buehler, this draft might not be an all-timer, but it will be viewed as solid in three years.

Seems to me Jerry has signed a lot of good players which is why this team is sitting where they are now. People want to say BP had a big input sure he did Wade also has had input.

Part of what a GM does is get the input from coaches and scouts before drafting a player or bringing in a FA. Jerry is just doing what any other GM does.

Add to that when key players have needed to be resigned Jerry has made that happen. Ware comes up and some are hollering he needs to be signed many others had no doubt Jerry would take care of the deal as he normally does.

Brady Quinn is sitting there for us to take...Jerry trades down, picks up a #1 the following year.

With the trade down, we take Anthony Spencer. With the pick the following year, we take Felix Jones.

Anyone questioning Jerry anymore ?
Sure looks brilliant today! Especially if you assume we would have taken Quinn--which we cannot assume. Either way, he got two great starters for at the most, one.

But, of course, that trade is not the best trade Jerry ever made....the Hershal Walker deal was maybe the best ever in the NFL.

That was Jerry and Wade, btw. You know Wade targeted Spencer and both already liked Romo.

We took Jones and Jenkins...

yeah true, but jones was the pick we got from the browns, and with the 2nd round pick we also got from the browns for that first rounder, we traded that and used it to get spencer.

I do get where you are going at because Jenkins was an awesome pickup obviously.

Rain Man,

I haven't read all of the posts in this thread, but are you sure it was Spencer and Felix Jones? and not Mike Jenkins?

I thought the #22 pick was Dallas' originally?

Regardless, the trade-up from the #28 pick up to the #25 pick to select Jenkins was a great move also!

I just love (in 2007) how Dallas traded down the #22 pick with the Browns #36 pick, got their #1 pick in 2008, then traded up with Philly to grab Spencer at the #28 pick.

The Eagles basically gave up Anthony Spencer for Kevin Kolb.

Way to screw them over Jerry!

I think Jerry Gets too much credit from some and not enough from others.. The scouting staff are the real MVP's.. Tom Ciskowski deserves more credit than Jerry for the last 2 drafts... Jerry does the moving and trading during the draft.. Scouts put all the info together on the picks...

Right, I'm expecting that one as talented as he is.

And I know people want to see the rookies and Wade is kind of old school in preferring not to play them, but it does mean that they're more prepared both mentally and physically when they have had a year of learning how to be a pro.

So just because some of these players aren't playing much right now doesn't mean they can't play. I suspect Mike Hamlin is another one like JW who will look good once he gets a chance.

And that's not even counting the injured guys like BW and Brewster and maybe even Hodge.
I wouldn't expect anything next year. Maybe in year 3 or 4. Not many times that people who are completely clueless about football end up having it "click" in their second year.

Add that Barbie has one more year and is playing at a decent level, and I don't think Williams ever sniffs the field at LB.

Do you know what else was awesome.

One of my female co-workers is from South Jersey (and obviously an Eagles fan).

When I was talking about that trade to one of my other co-workers (who is a Saints fan), she hollers out "WHO CARES!!!!"

Those were the only two words she said about football the entire day!

Love it, Love it, LOVE IT!

The silence was deafening!! and sweet!

I don't think I will hear about 44-6 anymore, anytime soon!

Yeah, I agree that the scouts are probably the ones working in the background that are doing the real dirty. I don't really know the exact hierarchy of this organization, but I kind of figured that over the last few years Jerry has put in place an excellent scouting staff that has fed him some pretty good tipoffs on certain players. You still have to at least give Jerry some credit for processing all that info and making the right decision (in addition to having that staff in place).

Don't forget the Sea TE Hannum and the LB that didn't make it out of training camp. Forget his name.

That is especially true.

Jerry is only as good as his personnel men. Jerry was never a scout, personnel director and is only a GM because he gave himself the title. He's basically a fan with money.

As long as he has quality people in place and listens to them, then we'll be fine. We had a great personnel dept and Jimmy in the first five years of his ownership. But JJ cut back on the scouting dept and split with Jimmy and the tandem of Jerry and Lacewell ran the team into the ground.

Finally with Ireland and Parcells we started getting it back on the right track. And more recently with Ciskowski. We just tend to get in trouble when Jerry overpays in trades, falls in love with prospects and reaches for them, fails to listen to the experts or listens to the wrong people.

But lately he has surrounded himself with some quality football people, and as long as he listens to them then that's all I ask.
